Early 2000s model year differences? Interested in Elite-V

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum, but am very familiar to boating and wakeboats. I sold my jet boat, as I've caught the wakesurfing bug, and want to get into an early 2000s Centurion. From what I can see online, there are a couple different models that Centurion made in the early 2000s: Elite-V, Air Warrior, and a few others. If anyone can help answer my questions, it'd be greatly appreciated!

• Is there a hull that does best for wakesurfing? The Elite-V appears to be the best route to go.
• How much ballast can each rear compartment hold. Whether it's an air warrior elite-v or not, I'd likely replace the tanks with soft bags to get more in.
• Did the Elite-V hull change a certain year? I'm really thinking a 2000 - 2002 would be great.
• Anything I am missing about these boats?

Thanks @mobenzo! From what I can tell, the Elite-V would need a little bit of help getting a good surf wake out of it. It'd appear that the same characteristics hold true, the bigger/wider the boat, the better the surf wave. Still makes me wonder what others people's elite-v surf waves look like on the forum.

My son surfs behind a 2000 elite v. Kinda close to the boat though. Still trying things.

 

750 bag in rear locker full

A 400 bag under port seat as full as possible w/o raising seat

Another 400 on top of port seat

Partially full (200?) under port bow seat

Factory center bag full

Homemade surf gate on starboard side.

 

Need to tune more.

I have a 2000 Elite V and love it. I'm still working on the wave as I've only had if since last winter but we are practicing surfing and Im hoping to be able to throw the rope this weekend. What is your budget as that would be a deciding factor more than anything else. From what I have heard here if possible you would be much happier with an Avalanche over an Elite if surfing is your primary goal as the hull is slightly wider and does not have the "spray pockets" the Elite does so it is easier to produce a killer wave on both sides, assuming you get the C4 wrap around seating and not the walk through transom. Also the "Air Warrior" is a "package" when buying new and only adds a tower, 250# center ballast tank and side graphics to the boat, it is not a specific hull itself.

Surfed on brother in laws 1999 elite v. Not a great wave at all but can be done. need a faster board than a trick board too. What is your budget? I say this as there may be other boats better suited to surfing than the elite. You can however surf any boat as I have surfed behind my Slalom tug but it is no fun and you would get tired of just trying to stay in the pocket the whole time which is kind of what it is like behind the elite. Elite set up was a follows

full bags both lockers

400 lbs bag on floor side of surf

full bow bag

10 people moving for additional ballast.

I was aiming for roughly $20k. I know a V-Drive is a huge plus for getting weight to the back. I'm seeing Elite-Vs go for less than 20... I figured a good amount of ballast & a surf wedge would do just fine, but any input would be helpful. I'm 6'3" / 220lbs, so the bigger the wave, the better.

I have a 99 elite V, you can definitely get them for less than 20k. Im rebuilding the tranny now but the guy I got it from surfed it he said. He had two 400lbs bags and a larger bag for the center and a bag for the bow. sack it and lean it over and it throws a surfable wake from what I understand.

We have a 2003 eliteV , run 750 in the rear locker, centre stock tank full, about 400 under left seat and about 350 in the nose on the left side with a 400 lbs sack not quite full . Works great. Thinking about trying that mission delta wake shaper and that might make the final touch to make a really nice wake.
