I'm pretty sure the new 6 speeds are 6L80's

When did they go to a 6-speed in the Chevy's?

Hmmm...Guess I've been out of the GM 1/2-ton loop for a while. See what playing with diesels too long will do to ya.

Maybe a little off topic, but in an ideal world this is what I want: a new Ford F250/Chevy HD 2500 conversion to Excursion. I am sure other people do them, but here is a guy in OK. You get a ton of room and the diesel engine. They are pricey at around $60K.

I think this will be my next work truck (Command Vehicle), dont think I could justify it if i were paying the bills. But if someone else is.....

Just wanted to report back. I appreciate all the suggestions on a new tow rig.

Here is what I settled on....

2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD

30,000 miles

6.6 L Duramax Turbo diesel LBZ

Allison 6 speed tranny with autostick

Leather interior

6 inch fabtech lift

20 inch alloy rims

35 inch Toyo MT tires (brand new)

K&N filter on the intake

Straight piped in the rear

Alpine DVD player in the dash

Planning on some chrome nerf bars on the side, spray in bed liner, some after market seat heaters, and a chip for better gas mileage and towing power. I guess I now have my winter upgrade list!!

Thanks!!! The flaps are maybe 1/4 inch too long right now and drag at slow speeds. Above about 15 mph the wind keeps them off the ground. I could trim them but I think I will leave them alone until I figure out exactly what I am going to do about getting the correct drop height on my hitch. Then if needed I could trim them a little or just let it happen naturally.....
