Some folks you just cant reach. The pull is only normal if the builder does not take the time to tune the rudder. Some builders do others don't but all makes use the same rudder.Handling is not affected only thing that changes is the boat will track strait once done........................................H

Like i said if the builder does not tune the rudder it is normal for it to pull.Does the pull serve a pupose NO.You have all read first had posts from other members saying its the best mod ever. There is a reason I dont do how to's anymore or post very much. Not worth the time just to argue.

h20king you have made some FANTASTIC how to posts and great contributions to the crew

We totally disagree on this "if the builder does not tune the rudder it is normal"

but that does not diminish my respect for your contributions to the crew.

It will be a shame if you won't be posting any more

All I know is, and this is from a inboard specialist " it is set to pull one way from the factory for a reason, it is to keep the slack out of the steering to give true straight traction in the water. Over time the cable gets weak and worn and will create more slop side to side. If you do not have it pull to one side (pressure on atleast one side of the rudder) to take the slop out, your boat will wonder inbetween the two slop points and won't track straight." again to me he is saying if you keep your cables regularly replaced you won't notice the slop in the steering but it eventually happens in every inboard over time?? Does this make sense?

He also said it shouldn't pull hard to one side, it should be a slight pull.. If its to the point you take your hands off the wheel under power and it darts to one side, that is when you tune the rudder to take the harsh pull out... I don't know, just posting what I've been told when asking about doing this mod...

Yeah, for a tournament slalom boat, a slight pull while driving the course is helpful. But our boats (apologies to minority DD folks) should track straight.

Ok thanks SuperDTF :) my cable was bad so I replaced it and wondered if when I go out and test drive this weekend, if it would pull or not... I asked about the "rudder tune" and they went into that explanation and said they should still pull on a vdrive wakeboard boat... So I didn't want to do it and ruin my rudder... Lol

Now I know I can do this if it pulls....

Dealerese Translator: "We don't really want to do it, and why should we? The factory sent us the boat like that. We don't charge you to do it. The factory won't reimburse us to do it. It's impossible to know if we actually got it perfectly right without multiple trips to the water, so the likelihood that we make you happy is very low. And if we admit to you that it really should track straight (unless you've a tournament slalom boat), then we'll never hear the end of it."

H is right, but in this whole scenarios, the dealers are on the short end. And since no other manufacturer does it well, there isn't any market pressure to get it right, and besides that, you don't generally find out if your boat is livable or not until after the purchase. So, we tune or grind the rudder until we're happy, and carry on.

Guys not trying to be the smartest guy just trying to help some people out. I would never give an answer I was not sure about. If I'm unsure I call my brother before I answer to make sure you guys get the right info.Kevin posted a thread on wakeworld asking to see everyones rudder.Once the pics start coming in it will be easy for you to verify what i said about all makes using the same rudder.Think of your rudder as a plane wing. When it is neutral there is still pressure on the rudder it is just equal on both sides so no sloppy steering. If the boat builders admitted that the rudders should be tuned they would never hear the end of it.The pull is normal for a rudder that is not tuned some makes that water test before the boats ship will take the time others will not and say its normal. Does not matter if you agree the pull is normal or not I think we can all agree that if you take your hands of the wheel for a second and the boat hooks hard to one side or the other it is a safety hazard.I am not bagging on centurion up until recently they made an affordable boat that with a little love and outfitting would out perform the other makes. in both wake and function

Kevin I always enjoy intelligent debate with you it always stays civil which I appreciate.I just looked at the wakeworld thread most rudders posted look the same except for the nautique.I had forgot about them.Their rudder is still made by marine hardware but is a proprietary design so it is only available through nautique or a nautique dealer. On another side note time to change your boat status to a 211 Enzo

From what my local CorrectCraft dealer tells me they use Buck Algonquin to make all of the underwater hardware for their boats and have for the last 40 years.

Also I believe MasterCraft used SouthEast Foundry for years to make their underwater gear and for the last few years they have used OJ to make their stuff.

From what I have heard lately Marine Hardware is not making gear for almost anyone except Centurion and Malibu. Even Axis is using SouthEast Foundry.

You might want to do some fact checking there Harold.

Obviously you have not been around long.Kevin and I have been going back and forth on this one for a couple years. However I'm sure you know what its like to get your chops busted. We have all watched you try to talk over Dave EM on stereo advice. Dave has been around the forums giving advice for years then you show up and try to out do him when your not even in the same league Just saying

seams pics of rudders are hard to find. Here are a couple one from Tige,MB ,Moomba ,AXIS,Malibu,Epic and mastercraft. I did however find in my search that OJ is now making struts ,fins and rudders so i stand corrected on that point
