Just finished the install. pretty easy and straight forward if you have a non adjustable trim tab. I was not able to get the measurement they want between the center of prop shaft and bottom of FAE. anyone else have this issue and is it a problem? thankspost-395-0-47033300-1394137668_thumb.jpg

I consider myself somewhat of an "expert" on FAE installation as I have installed about 12 of them (slight exaggeration) and have had every problem imaginable with them, some due to improper installation and some due to rare defects in craftmanship or "bad batches" as they have told me.

Anyway, the "Z" measurement is quite important, actually. The idea is that you want the bottom of the FAE to be up out of the prop wash. Otherwise, undue pressure on the bottom of the FAE could cause the bottom of it to rotate backwards at more of a 45 degree angle. Worst case, your FAE could pop off. If you're having trouble raising it far enough, contact them directly and they can help you further.

Been there, done that.

Oh, other than that, it looks great. You will love it once you get it right

what does up out of the prop wash mean? I know there is a continuing discussion on the way its pushed back... like ours, which we haven't even put in the water yet since its been put on.

I will check that Z measurement again, I know I saw it in their instructions.

As you can imagine, there is a lot of force directly behind the prop (for obvious reasons). If you can raise your FAE up above that prop centerline, not quite as much force is exerted on it. I believe the "proper" Z measurement is 1.5-2.5 inches. When I was having trouble with mine, the FAE guys told me to raise mine all the way up to 2.5 inches and said it wouldn't hurt if it was pushing 3 inches.

The easiest way to get the Z measurement is to FIRST MAKE SURE THE BOAT/TRAILER IS LEVEL. (ask me how I know). Then measure from the ground to the center of the prop. Then meausure from the ground to the bottom tip of the FAE. Find the difference between the two and shoot for 2.5" to be safe. I had to raise mine substantially but it made all of the difference

On my previous Enzo my FAE downpipe kept raising up from the water pressure. I finally went to better hose clamps to stop the rotation. I wonder if my "Z" measurement was too small. If it is a bit low do you just angle the down pipe backwards?

That's exactly the problem that I had and all of the heavy duty hoseclamps in the world wouldn't stop it from rotating backwards to 45 degrees. I adjusted my whole FAE upwards by tightening the nuts on the all-thread that went through the cross bar on top. (The square aluminum tubing on the underside of the swim platform). I'd bet money that your Z measurement was on the smallish side.

I'll bite. How do you know the trailer and boat is level? Just did mine and I believe I'm ok, but then again I put it on backwardss.

Received a message from FAE and was told to try it and see how it works. I have some room to swing back a bit and maybe get 2". As far as leveling the boat I just put a torpedo level on the trailer tongue. Hopefully I can get on the water soon since there is only 2' of ice left on our area lakes. SOB

BillC4--

I actually used one of those long levels on the rails of the trailer to make sure it was level

Got my FAE installed this afternoon. Took a little over 2 hours but I was moving slow to make sure I got it all measured and cut correctly. Ended with a "Z" measurement of 2.75 inches and clearance above the "A" Plate of right at .5 inches. Can't wait to test it out, we are finally getting some warmer weather so hopefully we can start riding in the next few weeks. I have a new P5 Double D I am dying to ride.
