Supreme S238 vs. Axis T23

It's interesting that everyone says the supremes don't have a good wakeboard wake.

90% of the people I see wakeboarding can get up and carve a bit. That is all.

Unless you are in the competition range of wakeboarding the supreme is going to have a more than good enough wave. I came from the I/O world into a supreme and compared to that the wakeboard wave is absolutely incredible, yes not what an X-star, wakesetter, or G23 is going to put out but, I can jump the wake at 70' back and do grabs and other small tricks, so for the level of probably 97% of wakeboarders who are A: men and women who don't want to get hurt because you have a job you need to be at. B: young children that are learning how to wakeboard or C: teenagers that are up and coming the supreme is going to do everything you need it to annnd give you an amazing surf wave.

That's my 2 cents on the topic.

I would love to see your wake. Haven't been able to get many examples of 238 wakes, only heard it was an improvement over 226

Boatnut I was in blind bay as well!

I couldn't believe how rough the water was and my S21 rode it like a dream, I was a bit nervous at first but then after cruising for a bit I realized how seaworthy the boat really was!

I'll be out again tomorrow, let's hope the weather is better

Oh and Stretch I just have an S21, I think I've seen a video of you wakeboarding somewhere on here and you are much better than me, I put about 1/2 ballast in my quickfills and wakeboard 70' back, for me that's good, I have a lot of fun and it only hurts if I don't clear the wake lol!

I love wakeboarding but surfing is also a lot of fun!

How fast were you guys going through the chop? So funny Tige's and Bu's couldn't keep up with you.

I could comfortably do 16-20mph and I was in at least 4' swell, my wife is pregnant so I was cautious, the boat could've handled a lot more.

I saw 2 wakesetters poke their noses around copper island at about 10mph and turn around right away. I guess their teeth were falling out! I was cruising the lake all day trying to find calm water and the ride was great! I actually think the S21 handles the rough water better than my 24' chaparral did!

I love my supreme!

New here, and looking for some advice.

I am going to be purchasing my families first boat in a few months and I have narrowed my choices down to the 2017 Supreme S 238 or 2017 Axis T23.

Has anyone driven/surfed/wakeboarded behind both boats? What were the pros and cons of each?

Which boat is better for small children learning to surf, ski, board, ect?

Full disclosure, I am also posing this question on the malibu crew forum as well.

Our neighbors had a Malibu Wakesetter, they recently sold and are looking a new boat. They are awesome on the wakeboard, do flips etc and love to wakeboard behind our S238 and also love how it rides in rough water compared to the wakesetter they had

The surf wave is also better.

i was right around 25 mph , heading back to little river, i do get a little wet sometimes, your S21 has way more free board, must have been a dry ride :)

Yes it was mostly dry, at one point I was crossing with the wind blowing sideways into the boat and we got pretty wet,

As long as I'm going straight into it or with it it's pretty good.

Were you taking any over the bow?

Sorry its been so long to give you guys and update on my demo of the boats I was looking to purchase. I was waiting for the dealer to get the 2017 S238's in stock. I have been researching the "value boats" for a while and I ended up demoing the following:

2017 Supreme S238

2016 Mastercraft NXT22

2017 Axis T23

2016 Moomba Mojo

All of these boats were great overall, but I have to sacrifice something with each one. Here is a breakdown of my thoughts on each.

2017 Supreme S238

Pros: This is a clean boat and I really like the new look of the boat with the new tower and windshield. The interior of the boat was the nicest of the four, especially around the dash area. The drive and handling was super smooth, and it took choppy water like a champ (best of the four). Wakeboard wake was above average, and the surf wave was big enough for my family to grow into. The dealer put in aftermarket sound, and it the sound system was amazing.

Cons: The new digital surf controls were difficult to manage while driving. You have to drive with your forearms. Even though the interior quality was really nice, the boat lacks some of the creature comforts offered by other boat (i.e. rear facing seats, dual zone volume control). Biggest con to this boat has to be storage. There is limited storage and if you sac out the port and starboard storage with sacks, you only have one storage compartment left.

2016 Mastercraft NXT22

Pros: This is a really nice boat with a clean well made interior. The interior is well laid out and provided a ton of room for family and friends. The boat handled very well and was decent in choppy water. I like the overall look of the boat minus the tower. Lots of deep storage for all the things you need to bring when you have kids. Wake and wave setup was really easy with the analog switches. I think this boat is a great option for someone with small kids learning wake sports for the first time like myself.

Cons: The wakes and surf wave on this boat were good but not great, We had the boat maxed out with sac ballast and had to add an additional sac in the floor of the boat to get me surfing. It would be hard to grow with this boat long term and I don't plan on trading it in in 2 years to take a hit. The sound system distorted at higher volume when we had to crank it up while driving. It also lacked rear facing seats, and the seats were not all that comfortable.

Axis T23

Pros: The performance and handling of this boat was great. I really felt like I had a connection to boat while driving it, especially through the turns. The wake and surfwave were legit on this boat, and setup was really easy. The surf wave was the longest and had a ton of push. The sound system was above average and I really like the dual zone control. The interior features with rear facing seats, storage and playpin bow are nice additions to this boat.

Cons: Even though the creature comforts are nice, the interior overall was disappointing. Some of the dash pieces, including the push button controls looked like they were glued on with elmers glue. I don't know that that quality will hold up to the destructive power of a 4 and 5 year old long term. Also, personal preference, but the gelcoat schemes available in the Axis are not as nice as some of the other boat options. Lastly, choppy water was not great. This boat slapped pretty hard and you could hear a difference from the other boats. It seemed hollow compared to some of the others.

2016 Moomba Mojo

Pros: Decently nice interior with good creature comforts including rear facing seat with back rest and ample storage. Overall performance and handing was above average. Wakes and surfwave were pretty good but it took a while to get it dialed in.

Cons: Controls have to be managed constantly in this boat. I can see how that could be good for customizing waves and wakes, but was a negative for me because it would be difficult for other people to drive the boat while I get behind the boat. The interior features were nice but like the Axis, overall quality was below average. Also, this boat did not track as well through turns as well as the other boats.

Verdict: I came into this process with limited knowledge, as this will be my families first boat. I have had a great time driving, surfing, and wakeboarding behind all the boats, but I feel like I have to give up something big for each one of these boats. My next step, is to increase my budget a bit and look at used luxury boats. I'm glad I went through this process so I could learn what I like and what don't, and most importantly, what will work best for my family. Thanks for all of your advice, and I would love to hear your thoughts on my feedback.

Great feedback!!!! Very nice thorough reviews!

I'll put a plug in for the FS33. Decent storage, you don't lose the space under the side seats when surfing because stock ballast is all you'll ever need. Rear facing seats, cutting edge technology and comforts. It's an amazing boat to grow in to with plenty of room for the little ones to run around in. Depending on your increased budget, you can probably pick up a '15 with low hours.

My advice don't get hung up on small things you have to make some compromises with any boat . If dual zone sound control is important to you you can add it later as most of us do. Go have a look at the wetsounds 420 eq. As far as storage I don't think it matters if you up your budget unless you up it alot. When you run a surf system you eat up storage with ballast. We run listed with our 238 which only fills ballast on one side leaving everything open on the opposite side. Another thing we did was put our sub in front of the driver so the compartment in front of the driver is open. And one last thing does not matter if we run listed or quick surf we never fill the bow sack so all that space is open for storage as well. My wife originally thought the same thing about the storage in the boat but once we set it up the way we wanted it became a non issue. If you feel you really need tons of storage my recommendation would be a nautique g 23 it has more storage than any wake boat on the market puts out a great wakeboard wake and a good surf wave. JMTC enjoy the search

Great feedback and glad you are able to demo each boat that you want. Unfortunately where I'm located I don't have that luxury.

If you do it right you can demo them the rest of the year and not have to purchase a boat this year and get plenty of water time. Then you might grow a good thick beard over the winter and do it again next season and they might not recognize you!! LOL

I saw a killer I mean super nice like new sv233 on boat trader for 65k with warrantee, less than 100 hours, reverse gel coat, every option almost. Really too good to be true. 2014 I think, maybe 15.

When I upgrade it will definitely be used. No way I coukd ever buy a new boat. Besides I'd rather have a boat with 100 hours on it that's ready had all the little issues and fixed.

Absolute great review I was jumping ahead as I read to see what you said in the next paragraph!
