Yeah, Nautiques have a pull out trash can there (in the walk thru) or some have even mounted the sub on that wall and built the box behind it.. People do different things...now with it facing forward most of your sound is going under the bow seat. If you cut the port I would face it forward and get the proper grill for it, that will protect it fine.. Cutting a "port" or vent will let sound escape in that area from the observerse compartment, I would tryto cut a decent size hole so you dont have "port noise" but still keep the structural aspect of the dash.... If that's what you want to do bro :-)

We just did mine yesterday. The black board they are attached to is the lid that sat on the rear ballast (that we removed last weekend). Nothing like a little recycling, and I think it came out pretty good!!
