2008 Enzo SV 230 Ballast Question

I know I know - not another ballast question.

 

But here it is:

 

Need to know if anyone has rewired the stock ballast puppies in an Enzo SV 230 to run in Reverse. If so were you able to do it without swapping the switch bodies (ie, are the OEM switches 7 pin - boat is not near by so I cannot check.)

 

Stock set up was 4 hard tanks and 1 Bow bag. Two pump puppies to fill through a manifold - aerators to drain..... Ripping it all out and adding two more reversible pumps to service two Enzo sacs and a manual bypass to fill the bow bag.

It can be done but you will nerd a new switch double pole double throw

Thanks King. I am guessing then that the OEM switches are double pole single throw thus can not reverse polarity. Right now fill activates a Pump Puppy and Empty activates the associated aerator.

 

So I figure these are what a guys needs?

Our 2008 SV230 has Carling switches.

I have a 2008 enzo sv230. Previous owner did the set up so I can't fully answer but I have ballast puppies that run in both directions. My set up is jabso ballast puppies mounted under the rear seats have their own dedicated switches that go forward and backward. The stock sprinkler system is not used. The switches that powered the stock sprinklers now power pumps that sit on the enzo sacs to speed up the empty process (only one direction). My plan this year is to have a manual switch for the starboard jabso to run to either the starboard or the port ballast since I use only the port ballast 90% of the time. It takes about 10 minutes to fill up which is fine since we use it to organize everyone, teach new guys the basics, or just listen to music (only downside is that everyone thinks we are broken down when they see the rear cover up for so long). Emptying is a little faster but I usually just idle until the water stops coming out of the side of the boat.

 

Side note: With the flexible fins on the ballast puppies, they can get stuck if not used for a while (won't switch between forward and backward) if your wire gauge is too small as it won't carry enough current to "kick" them over. They key is to switch the pump to the opposite direction after you finish filling or emptying. I.E. After you finish filling tanks, switch it to reverse for just a second so the fins are oriented correctly when you are ready to empty and visa versa when you finish emptying. Before I learned this, I had to take these pumps apart while on the water to manually switch the fin direction and the screws holding the housing on are VERY easy to lose.

I am currently thinking I may just utilize both existing jabscos as my fill pumps but route the discharge lines through isolation valves that allow me to route flow to port or starboard enzo bags. So that would give me two pumps per bag to fill but only at one time. I will have to crank ball vales to move flow - but I figure not to much of a big deal. I was then going to just keep the stock set up of two 1000gph aerator pumps per bag for the empty. Crossover the vent lines to opposite side to prevent siphoning and call it good. Any thoughts from the crew?

I have an 08 Enzo. It has a port Enzo sac. I took all the sprinkler stuff and burned it. My Enzo sac port is filled with one of the two factory pumps mounted beside the transmission. I use both the factory drain pumps in the Enzo sac (the hardware came with the kit to mount those pumps) the drains run over to the starboard side. I made that mod as the bag would drain down some.

 

The pump filling the sac is a 1" discharge and I Plumed it into a 1" to two 3/4" tee. Fill twice as fast as the bs sprinkler stuff. I use the other pump to fill sacs that go on the floor. Soon I will have two Enzo sacs and will have a pump for each. I've found the bow sac is useless basically. I just put a rider up there

I recently bypassed the sprinkler valves and strainers and fill directly to Enzo sac. Fill time is 10 min with Ballast King and drain time for the 1450 ponds is 7 min with 2 Tsunami 1200's and all 1" lines and thru-hulls.

 

Seriously, bypass the sprinkler valves... those things caused me a lot of headaches.

Good to know guys. Plan is to bypass sprinkler valves and then set up a system with full port ball valves and 1 1/8th" hose to use both stock jabscos to fill either port or starboard enzo sacs then drain with two aerators per bag. Sounds like it should work good. With two jabscos filling I imagine the fill time will be in the 8-10 min range. I can live with that!

Yeah I agree that bow sac is a bit useless - I personally would rather have the storage and just throw a rider up there or my 400# fly high.

I have gone through maybe 3 of those cartridge pumps. I found a supplier on Amazon, ordered 2 1000gph for around 40.00 I ordered Saturday and Monday they were here!
