  1. Hey guys, First time post here and I am going crazy trying to figure out 2 problems. I am pulling my hair out! Problem #1 - I have 3 ballast tanks. My center ballast tank is run on a Jabsco reversible pump. It will fill just fine, but was blowing a fuse when flipping the switch to drain. I replaced the fuse and the pump. I thought it was the pump. It will fill just fine, but when I click it to drain, I get nothing. No power, no noise, nothing. The tank is full and I can't drain it. Also, when I flip it to "fill", water is coming out of 2 holes on the side of the boat. I know 1 is an overflow and that is normal when it is full, but why is it coming out of 2. Any advice? I really don't want to take this to the dealer for the stupid ballast pump. Problem #2 - My red V-drive light on the boat is random. When I go to start the boat, it comes on when the key is turned to the "on" position. When I actually start the boat, it goes off. It stays off and then will randomly come on at about 3,000 RPM's, but only sometimes. This is around 24mph. Then when I back off the throttle, the light goes off. After riding for a bit, it will come back on again. It is random. Oil level looks good and oil is clean. I checked the oil in 1 spot. Is there another area I need to check the oil? It appears this is a PCM V-drive. Any help on these would be great. I am somewhat mechanically inclined and would like to avoid a dealer if I could. Thanks so much!
  2. We recently acquired a 13' SV244, been a great boat so far except for the looming transmission and v-drive issue. I've been doing a lot of reading here and learning about these things trying to figure out what the issue may be, but so far have not been able to. So, I figured I'd probe the community and see what they thought may be the issue. First off, how we came to find the issue. We went on a longer boat ride with the plan to stop somewhere along the way to surf, when we stopped to surf the moment we accelerated the transmission started slipping. We decided to drain and head home, at that point we needed to limp home at idle it would no longer let us plain. What we've done since then to troubleshoot and attempt fixing. First we checked the fluids, Transmission read almost completely empty and the v-drive was full of milkshake. So, the next day we filled the tranny and replaced the oil in the v-drive. While we were in there we also checked the transmission cooler for blockages and found none. Afterwards we went for a test drive and everything functioned properly. Then did a secondary flush on all the fluids, Tranny and V-drive . The v-drive was still a little milky but that was presumably from us not removing all of the water the first time. Since then (about a week after fluid changes and daily use) the boat has been functioning properly and we have been checking the fluids at the end of each day. What we have found is that the transmission is definitely leaking fluid, it is visible on the belly of the boat. It isn't leaking a lot and also doesn't seem to be consistent. some days after use there will be little or none lost others it is noticeable. We've taken steps to try and identify the source of the leak but haven't identified it yet. The v-drive also seems to have an issue, it isn't leaking any fluid but it has a noticeable hiss of air when I remove the dipstick, probably an issue with the vent right? There's is also evidence of some droplets of milkshake starting to form if that makes sense? This could be remnants of water from the last 2 flushes. Anyways, If you guys have any ideas on what the issues may be i'd love to hear em' so we can get this boat fixed up. It seems odd to me that these issues are occurring at the same time, so my thinking is that there is something going on with the cooler even though it seems to be in good shape. Planning on doing another fluid flush sometime next week, keep monitoring the fluids and try to locate a leakage source.
  3. 08' SV240 6.2 Black scorpion (old school gen 2 SBC) rear engine / V-drive Winterized the motor as I always have, drained the manifolds and lower water pump, reinstalled the plugs, and filled with antifreeze from the T-stat housing.... This year, on it's first run of the year, noticed it was leaking a LOT of water out of the bellhousing. I must have had a frost plug come out behind the flywheel. Right now, it's Schrodinger's cat... it could be dead or it could be alive, but either way, I need to pull the engine to find out. (makes good power, no water in oil, fingers crossed it's just the frost plug) I've pulled motors in mercruiser alpha / bravo setups before, but never with a V-drive. I'm *hoping* I could unbolt the engine from the V-drive, slide it forward (towards the back of the boat) and lift it up and out. Is that possible? The main engine mounts look like big single studs, not sure how it would be able to slide away from the V-drive. Is there a how to somewhere? A video? a post with pictures? I have a forklift, and man power.... but I really don't want to have to mess around with the V-drive if I can avoid it...
  4. Bought this 1st-generation 1991 Falcon V from a guy in Michigan back in 2014. Immediately installed a tower. After a few seasons, the upholstery was so beat I had to replace. Seat boxes were only 5" deep, so the storage under the seats was almost useless. I decided to rebuild the seat boxes adding 3" in height, now the storage is much better, and you don't feel like your sitting all the way on the floor. When thinking about re-upholstering the doghouse-style engine cover, I really wanted to build wrap-around seating. Been working on the engine box over the last few months. Built the structure and did all the upholstery work myself. Fun project but a lot of work! I'll have to do separate posts for the pictures.
  5. So it appears that I have developed an oil leak somewhere on my V-drive. It's difficult to pinpoint where exactly it is coming from. I believe, and my fingers are crossed that it is coming from the pan seal. Actually, it'd be awesome if it were just a loose drain bolt or something, but I'm being slightly more realistic. There has not been any issues with this boat for the previous 4 years that I've owned it. I believe the issue may have started because of sitting water in the bilge in the fall may have deteriorated the seal. My driveway slopes down to the street so the boat sits bow down. Anyway, I've searched high and low for a thread on replacing this seal, but have had no luck. After talking with Duramatt, he said a few fellow crew members have had similar issues. Any knowledge on this issue would be greatly appreciated. If it's not the pan seal... how much of a PITA is it to remove the V-drive? Does it actually need to be removed to fix the seal!?
  6. I'm new to this site and have been reading the threads for a few days now and doing all kinds of research trying to decide on a boat. Been looking all over the place at boats including dealers and private parties. This will be just my 2nd boat. First boat was a 87 centurion tru track (bought it on CR for $5K) that I completely rebuilt from redoing the stringers to adding a tower and stereo and new upholstery, sold it for 11K. Been saving to upgrade and now have about 22K cash to spend. I've decided on a v-drive for sure, as we only wakeboard and want to start surfing. Budget is 22K tops, but hoping to get into something for less so I have money to pay taxes, reg and any upgrades I might need. Really hoping to get some advice here from some more experienced and savy boaters. 2 boats that are catching our attention is a 99 Malibu Sunsetter VLX v-drive, has the new swept back tower on it that has never had a rope on it,, makes the boat look really sweet despite the weak graphics. Boat has 360 hours and is very clean, runs strong. Downsides are: no perfect pass, no ballast, sound system is junk. The wake is nice and a good base to work from for sure. But the price is $20,500 firm from Dealer and they won't budge, which means with taxes, Im at the top of my budget. 2nd boat is a 01 Centurion Air Warrior Eclipse v-drive. This is the one with open bow but the ice chest is in the walk through, no wrap around seating. Has the one 250 center ballast stock. The boat is in phenominal condition with just 97 hours on it and sweet graphics. It does not have perfect pass either, but does have a decent sound system. Private seller is asking 19K and I know for sure they will take less. I guess Im a bit leary that the boats been sitting for prolonged periods. Is this a factor? It's been garaged and looks like new. I know the malibu is a solid boat and a good hull to start with, but my only experience with Centurions is with my 87 rotted stringer POS. Either boat is a huge step up for us, but Im really hoping to get some input. I know for another couple thousand I can get into a lot more boat options, but Im trying to get into something now, while the used boats are cheap. WIth the 01 Eclipse I can have money towards adding more ballast, perfect pass, etc. so I am stearing towards that. I found tons of stuff here about Elites, but not much about the Eclipse. Can someone please school me on these hulls. Is it the same hull? Any input is greatly appreciated.
