reverse and neutral not working

for starters my boat is an 02 sport bowrider, 5.7L mercury, borgwarner velvet drive 1-1 ratio tranny.

 

my problem is the tranny swas slipping when pulling a skier, now it wont go into neutral or reverse.

 

ive tried, changing tranny fluid but no luck.

 

so hopefully someone on here can help me out!

The news is not good you most likely need a trany rebuild or replacement

thats what im guessing it is

 

if so whats the least expensive rout to go? rebuild vs new? pros cons of both?

 

where is a ggod place in sacramento to do it or is it easy enough for myself to do? ive done tons of trannys in cars but never a boat, the tranny is easy to get to so is it a simple task?

 

any write ups or how tos?

by chance did you check the cable to see if it is broke, and not engaging/disengaging the trans?
