PRESS RELEASE - 2011 Centurion Boats World Wake Surfing Championship Results

Results are in for the 2011 Centurion Boats World Wake Surfing Championship Centurion Boats is proud to have towed yet another record shattering World Championship event. In conjunction with ToWanZa Wakesurfing and PCM Marine Engines, the wake surfing community came together to make this international event a huge success at the BlueWater Resort & Casino in Parker Arizona. A quick summary from the weekend:

  • First ever SuperMan landed in competition by Jake McGuire
  • First ever Shuv-it 540 thrown in competition by Keenan Flegel
  • First ever Frontside Gumby Shuv thrown in competition by Drew Danielo
  • A $35,000 purse of cash and prizes (thousands more than any other wakesurf event)
  • Centurion towed the event with the new Enzo SV244 and the Enzo SV240+

The sun was out in Parker, Arizona and the only thing that could be hotter than the weather was the show put on by 90 of the best wake surfers in the world! With an aerial assault from the surf style riders, and an amazing display of technical tricks from the skim style divisions the 2011 Centurion Boats World Wake Surfing Championship presented by ToWanZa Wakesurfing and PCM Marine Engines came to conclusion after two days of Amateur and Professional competition. The Colorado River brought perfect conditions right in front of BlueWater Resort & Casino. The final rounds of competition brought out the top 6 competitors in each division with a format that guaranteed the best display of wakesurfing in the history of our sport; the final day could be summed up in one word. WOW!

 

 

Pulled by 2012 Centurion Enzo models 244 & 240+ the crowd witnessed historical feats this weekend. The first ever contest executed 540 Shuv-It thrown by reigning Overall World Champion Keenan Flegel, holding the #2 spot in the rankings going into Saturday. Jake McGuire qualified in the Mens Pro Surf by successfully landing the first-ever SuperMan in a professional contest. Reigning Surf Style Champion James Walker executed one of the greatest runs in history while qualifying including an air 180 to a surface 540. Challenging the judges skills former, and 5-Time prior World Champion Drew Danielo, threw the first Frontside Gumby shuv to set the stage for finals. With the qualifiers bringing tricks of this caliber, the crowd packed in the the Rivers Edge Cantina, Beachfront, BlueWater Island and indoors watching the live broadcast to get the best view possible to watch the most anticipated finals ever.

 

Leaving nobody disappointed the Pros kicked off with the Women's Surf. Rebecca Ort (Switzerland) defending her current title rode third due to rankings and brought it home to knock off 16 year-old Texan Ashley Kidd (USA) and Lake Zurich local Korina Smyrek (Switzerland). In the Women's Skim division 4-Time World Champion, and Centurion Boats Team rider Bri Chmel dominated and earned her crown over newcomer Meredith Kurysh (USA) and veteran Caroline Villeneuve (Canada).

 

As the Men's Pro Surf started, Chase Hazen (USA) in the #2 rank took the lead and never gave it up to secure the crown from reigning Champion James Walker (USA). Centurion Boats Team rider Chris Kinsey (USA) rounded the podium up in 3rd as the three of them provided an aerial and technical assault for the crown. Leaving no question, these are the three best surf-style riders on the planet.

The main event was no shocker as the entire beach, island & cantina sat in silence to watch the greatest rematch in history. Trying to take the World title in the Men's Pro Skim Centurion Boats Team rider Drew Danielo (USA) knew it was his to lose as he entered finals in the #1 spot and it came down to the final 60 seconds. Drew delivered the biggest pass of the day to secure his crown and title of 6-Time World Wake Surfing Champion.

 

"We've dominated the podium" says Brian Holland, National Sales Manager from Centurion Boats as Centurion Boats Team riders Drew Danielo, Keenan Flegel & Noah Flegel stood proudly as the three best Skim-Style riders in the World!
