  1. Hi there, thanks in advance for reading and help! My 05 Avalanche has now been in the shop for 3+ weeks that the mechanic cannot figure out the root issue so I'm looking to hive mind some ideas/support on a diagnosis. The boat - 05 Avalanche C4 - Black Scorpion - about 400 ish hours What happened - a few hours into our 3rd day of surfing the boat all of the sudden started vibrating. It's mellow at low speeds and gets progressively worse at high speeds. We immediately got it off of the water and into our local shop. The shop replicated the vibrations. They started by checking the engine mounts and alignment and everything looks fine. They took the prop and prop shaft off to make sure they are straight and undamaged and say those are great. They found a bolt had backed out of the coupler so they replaced that bolt. Still vibrating. Next step was to remove the coupler. Turns out the coupler was cracked and has significant wear on one of the inside edges (I will try and get a picture for you). At this time, they ran the engine, tranny and v drive without the coupler and it didn't vibrate. Because of this, we all felt confident that the vibration was coming from the coupler. However, when a new coupler was put on and the prop shaft was connected again, it was still vibrating. The shop says the next step is to remove the v-drive but this may take a long time because they have to lift the engine and they are busy this time of year. They've also never seen an issue like this where the vibes came on all of the sudden and the coupler was cracked but not causing the vibrations. Confidence level is low at this point. I'm writing here wondering if anyone has seen this issue and if you have any idea of what we should be looking at/for. Appreciate any help I can get!
  2. Hi Centurion Friends--- 2000 Elite V -- Out yesterday pulling the tube with one person on it... hit a stick (2.5 diameter 4 ft long) and felt the bump bump bump bump then went straight for a while no vibration--- now only getting vibration when turning deep and slight vibration. I have checked the prop and don't see any visible damage-- I have a spare 3 blade prop-- I am planning to try it out and see what it does. If I still get the vibration what do you suggest? Could it be the shaft or the rudder-- didn't see any damage on rudder. Suggestions are appreciated. thanks Natedawg
  3. Hi, i am new to this forum. Just purchased a 2006 sport bow rider. I have an intermittent problem with a vibration what appears to be in the drive shaft. I have come from a small ski boat and not sure if this is normal for this type of boat or it should be smooth on the water and something is wrong. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
  4. I have a 2008 typhoon that after it sits on the lift for a week or more the first few times its taken out it will vibrate thru what appears to be the V-drive assembly, especially if the boat is loaded up(i.e. pulling tubers), but then after the first few times its been taken out it goes away and i have no problem with it. I'm suspecting it is the propeller shaft dripless seal, does this need lubrication? All fluid levels are fine the Walter V-drive and transmission fluid are right to spec. Any ideas, Thanks
  5. Guys, I was running my boat the other day and had it was running very well, no issues. Then instantaneously it started to shake violently at high rpm. There wasn't anything gradual about it. It was fine one second and vibrating badly the next second. I thought I might have hit something even though I was travelling in the middle of the lake over an area that is heavily travelled and I didn't feel anything. I limped back to the marina and checked it out. The engine was running fine as I limped back. I know that may not mean much since it didn't have much load on it. There are no noticeable bends in the prop and there aren't even any dings, so I don't think it is the prop. Because it was running fine and the prop looks fine I am assuming the shaft is not bent. There is no play in the strut or in the shaft where it goes through the strut. So I am wondering what other things could it be. Could there be an issue with the connection between the shaft and the transmission. Are there any weights to balance the shaft that could have come off? I did see something on the forum about the motor mount bolts. I didn't think of that so I will check that to make sure they are tight. I have a spare prop, so I am also going to try that even though I can't see anything wrong with the original. Thanks for any help and input, Brian
  6. Hey guys, this is my first inboard and I'm having a issue with a odd engine noise and mild vibration in the engine compartment. We were cruising across the lake and opened it up and was doing about 47mph and then engine started to make a rattling noise in engine. I slowed up and visually inspected and found nothing. I jumped in water and swam under to feel if prop or shaft was loose and nothing. I started up again and no engine noise or vibration sound until about 35 mph and 3700 rpm( roughly cause tach don't work yet). This is first boat and any info or where to start would be greatly helpful . Thanks
