  1. Our 02 Avalanche with the black scorpion motor is give us intermittent issues (hate those!). Problems started beginning of last season (2020) when we ran her out of fuel on our way at the end of the day. Next time out, just after putting her into the water she would start, but idled rough and when throttle was applied it would die. Replaced the fuel water separator (after doing a quick good search) and it worked and did good the rest of the day. Ran good then next few trips out, then all of the sudden, almost out of no where it started doing to same thing (would start, idle rough and when throttle was applied it would die). Replace the fuel\water separator 2 addl times thinking maybe I sucked some crud up out of the bottom of the fuel tank but we are are still having intermittent issues so not sure that fixed anything. We'll go out on 2-5 separate day trips and run perfect (wake board, surf, tube). Then out of the blue it will leave us stranded (mid-day, beginning of the day, end of day on our way back at dusk). That was 2020 (great year!). Took to dealer, and based on what we described, they said the high pressure fuel pump was going out. The did a fuel pressure test and confirmed fuel pressure was lower than spec. So we replaced it April 2021. Fuel pressure came into spec with new high pressure fuel pump. Took it out and ran great! Problem solved...NOT! The very next weekend it did the same thing and left us stranded! Spark plugs were replaced and injectors clean in spring 2020 (had some other work done at that time). Pull the distributor cap and saw minor very wear\buildup on cap anodes (not sure what they are called). Didn't see any green icicles or buildup. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!
  2. i have recently purchased a 2016 SV230. It has about 60 hrs on the motor and i have gone through 2 fuel relays. The first time was at around 58 hrs and the second time was at 62 hrs. The first time was at the doc so it wasnt too big of a problem. However, yesterday, the boat motor simply died when i was getting in the boat after wake surfing. Being that this has happened to us 2 times now, im wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar issue and how you were able to troubleshoot this problem. I have taken it to the dealer and they cannot find where the issue is coming from. for all i know, it could be a bad ground or a problem with the fuel pump itself.... Thanks!!
  3. Hey Guys, I finally got myself a boat. I picked up a 2007 Avalanche with 29 hours from Southern California. It has the Mercruiser Black Scorpion 330hp. I’ve had it almost 2 months and love it. I’ve added 2 jumbo v-drive sacs and a bow sac and the boat throws a killer wave. I had a small problem show up a little over a week ago and I would like to share it with you guys just in case someone else runs into this problem. We were out wakeboarding and the boat started to bog down just like I was cutting back on the throttle. When I put the boat in neutral it ran rough and almost died. I shut it down. It re started fine and ran good until 20 mph then it would do it again. It progressed to the point the boat would only go 6 mph. Any thing above that and it would run really rough and almost stall. Never at anytime was there an alarm or light that came on. I got on the phone and spoke to a few Mercruiser service guys and they led me to believe it was a Sea Water Sensor, a sensor for the letting the V-Drive know that it is getting enough water. Tried that and there was no change. I spoke with them again and they basically said it had to go in and have the codes read. I was reluctant because there was no alarm or warning light that came on. I stuck with my feeling that it was something fuel related and asked for some info on the fuel system. Next thing I did was replace the inline and spin on fuel filters. No change. Then I put a fuel pressure gauge on and checked the fuel pressure. When the key was turned on it went up to 32lbs and then settled at 26-28. When I started the engine it dropped to 24-26lbs. When I increased the rpm’s it dropped to 20lbs. The fuel pressure should always be around 32lbs. I found the problem. For those of you that don’t know there are 2 fuel pumps, a low pressure and a high pressure. The low pressure is the silver one just above the spin on fuel/water separator. The high pressure is the one in the box under the engine on the starboard side. The low pressure feeds the high pressure but the boat will run with just the high pressure. Now I have to find which one is not working. The service guys could not tell me how to do this so I started with the low pressure and unplugged it. There was no difference in the fuel pressure. I checked the power supply and had power so I removed the pump and bench tested it with a 12volt source. Nothing, it was dead. I ordered a new pump. I had 2 choices, an OEM for $370 CDA or an after market Mallory for $228 CDA. I installed the new pump and it runs great. I hope that my experience will help someone else out.
  4. I am having trouble with my 2001 Concourse witha 6.2 Scorpion motor. I am not getting any fuel. I can spray starting fluid in the air intake and it will run until you stop spraying. I read in the forum where the fuel pump is located below the manifold and alternator. Of course you can not see anything under there. I stuck my hands down there and found a two wire connector. It was located half way down the engine block. It went to what I assume is the fuel pump. I tested it with a test light and with the igintion switch on, I didn't find any voltage. I checked all the fuses under the dash, but do not know where the fuel pump fuse is located. I have ran the boat a couple of times this year. The temp gauge stopped working last year. After running the boat about 15 minutes the buzzer would go off. I unhooked the buzzer last year. ( I know that is not smart). But, I have ran it many times since with no problems. I have not replaced any of the fuel filters before. I feel like the fuel pump is not working. But, is it a fuel pump problem or a computer problem or a power to the pump problem? Any help will be appreciated!
  5. Hello Guys, I recently ran my 2004 Centurion Lightning out of gas and it won't start now, so I suspect I burned up the fuel pump. I tested the low pressure fuel pump and it seems fine. So I believe it is the high presure fuel pump. My question is that I want to do the easiest thing first and that would be to test the fuse. I have three 20 amp fuses located in engine compartment that I can see and they look fine. I assume that one of these is for the fuel pump but I am not sure. Any other easy checks I should do before I go for the fuel pump?
