Ever since my trip to Texas last year for the Crew Meet, I've been planning to get a custom made board. It was REALLY tough to decide on which shaper to go with. But after fighting with myself for months, and having a few conversations with a few fellow Crewmembers, I decided to go with Nick Wiersema and Shred Stixx. I rode Chris Kinseys board at the meet and loved how rock solid it was on the water, but still lively. I'm hoping this will help me with more technical tricks... only time will tell this summer!
So anyways, here's the breakdown of the build. I decided on a model that's not really one of the stock board lineup. It's kind of a slight variation of the Hazen model. (sidenote, I just found out that Chase has now left Shred Stixx and joined Liquid Force) Back on track now.
The core of the board is a new type of "spongy" foam that's supposed to resist heal dents and damage.
Went with a Parabolic stringer which is actually two stringers, one on each side of the board 1-2" from the rails of the board. Supposed to have better response, or transfer of energy from your feet to the board. Beyond that, I was going to do Carbon rails but decided to go with Nick's suggestions and that was aborted.
After figuring all that stuff out, graphics was the only thing left to sort out. I started with some very simple designs that was going to be airbrushed by Nick. But then found out I could do a full bottom graphic for very little more money, and the pressure was on to come up with something cool. It was best to make the design a vector, which photoshop(the only program I had any experience with for design) does not do. So I had to learn how to use illustrator. It proved to be a difficult transition, but I figured some stuff out and am quite pleased with the final evolved design.
Onto the pictures.
