  1. Feel around down there with your fingers. Most likely you have a zip tie or something stuck in it that is keeping it from shutting off.
  2. Interesting you brought this up. Towards the end of my outing on Saturday I started to notice an intermittent vibration almost like something was slipping. It only happened at higher RPM's. I checked the oil and V drive oil and it turns out the V drive oil wasn't registering on the dipstick. I shut it down for the day. I decided to top it up and go for a lake test last night. When I initially put it in gear I noticed some clanging type sounds. They went away pretty quickly. I then took her op to 36 mph for an extended amount of time without any problems, everything seemed normal. Best I can figure is the low oil caused the V drive to heat up and start to slip somehow. Once I got oil in it and the oil had a bit of time to penetrate the nooks and cranies everything seemed to be normal. Has anyone had anything like this happen? I'm going to do another water test Friday evening to see if the issue returns.
  3. I winterize and the store indoors in an unheated location. It gets below freezing in that building. What's even more crazy is when I pull an old impeller for replacement they look practically new. I keep them for spares. The only thing I use to lube them for installation is a little dish soap.
  4. For the record I'm averaging three years per impeller and I've never pulled for the winter. Come to think of it in all the years my family has had boats we've never pulled an impeller for the winter. Unnecessary IMHO.
  5. Where to Boat-Utah County

The last few years Utah Lake has been too low to launch in most of the marinas and dicey if you could launch. This year is different because we had a ton of snow so it is back to normal. I don't like the shallow depthat Utah Lake because it screws up my surf wave so I go elsewhere. If your primary focus is wakeboarding then you're fine. Deer Creek is great but it is considered contaminated because of quagga mussels at the moment. This means you have to decontaminate if you're going to go to any other lake. This restriction may be lifted next year as there hasn't been a positive test for quagga in three years. Jordanelle is in fine shape and quagga free. The problem is it gets really crowded on your average Saturday. Weeknights are great though. I'm currently hitting Rockport and Echo. They aren't too far a way and are less crowded and choppy than Deer Creek and Jordanelle. East Canyon is in the same area and is a fine reservoir.
  6. Wait a minute....I talked to Fineline a couple of weeks ago about the gel coat I'd need for a repair. They told me that the flake is mixed with a clear coat and sprayed over the gel coat. Come to think of it the parts guy that helped me never called me back with the color name.
  7. Last year my boat chewed up a couple of starters due to an electrical problem. I got that sorted out and it ran great for the final two outings of the year. Prior to leaving for last week's Powell trip I started the boat up on the fake-a-lake and everything seemed good. I probably started it thirty or so times just to make sure the starter problem didn't return. When I put the boat in the water the boat turned over a couple of cranks and then stopped with a thunk. It then started up normally except I had to give it a little gas. The problem continued during the trip and increased in frequency. Fortunately (maybe unfortunately) I was able to get the boat started despite the problem each time I went out and the boat ran fine once started. That lasted until the morning I was supposed to go home when the boat wouldn't start. I got towed home back to the marina by the houseboat and dropped the boat off at M&M Marine in Springville on my way home. They checked it out and determined that the boat was vapor-locking but couldn't determine the cause because the starter was shot. They also mentioned that they drained some water out of the cylinders. Maybe I heard that wrong and they meant liquid. I can't imagine vapor lock being a reason for water to be in the block. Vapor lock is a fuel thing. Anyway, has anyone had something similar happen? Boat is a 2005 SV230 with a 6.2 Black Scorpion.
  8. Sideswipe with suckgate

I picked up a Nauticurl and it works great with the Sideswipe. I think having the gate on the back is really an advantage with the Sideswipe because the gate is on the back side of the device and allows it to get as far back as possible. I'm still experimenting but thus far I have had the best results filling both rear bags (750 each) and then the side underseat seat bag (Fly Hi 705 rear seat sacks as full as possible) on the side I'm surfing. I tried it with all my ballast full but couldn't get enough speed. This might be helped by getting some weight into the bow. Ultimately what this means is I'm going to design a surf system for my boat that resembles what's currently on the late model Centurion boats. I want to control all this automatically.
  9. Three days on the lake and my boat has been flawless. Here's to making it through the rest of the summer trouble free.
  10. Mastercraft X23 Broken Drive Shaft

My friend had this happen on his X45. I I believe it also cost him his V-drive. The parts and the fixing the damage and the bill was around $10k.
  11. new board advice

I just got a Chaos Bamboo Ringer XL. Great board with a lot of fin options. Fast board for big guys. If you're even bigger you can get an XXL version.
  12. When I'm done for the day I flip all the pumps to drain and then cruise around a bit at a speed that keeps the bow up. This causes the water to drain to the back where the pump can pump it out. You can also stop on the boat ramp when loading and flip the drain switch. The incline will cause the water to flow back to the pumps.
  13. Anyone know how they handle the sparkle finish? The only info on my spec sheet says black flake panel.
  14. So how are you feeling about your boat now?
  15. Good news. First some backstory: After the new starter and the mechanic blowing out the motor I went out three times and enjoyed the day on my boat. The symptoms did not return. However, on the fourth outing the symptoms returned. I finished out the day and then took the boat back to M&M (BoardCo). They just diagnosed the problem as cracked manifolds which was allowing water to leak into the cylinders. New manifolds are on order and I should be back on the lake next week sometime. Honestly I couldn't be more thrilled. I've modded this boat and it performs incredibly. I really didn't want to contemplate buying a new or a later model used boat. One of the flaws of staying with an older boat is that cast iron stuff on them tends to corrode and ultimately needs to be replaced. I can live with that if it saves me tens of thousands of dollars. Whew!
  16. Best bimini on the market. Nothing cheesy about any of it. There's a reason why BoardCo and the local Nautique dealers outfit the boats the sell with Sewlong biminis rather than the factory versions.
  17. You can easily do a A-plate with that. Do a search, there are a bunch of examples with pics.
  18. Is it a manual tab or does it have rams that move the plate up and down?
  19. There isn't one available commercially that I know of. Most of us have used a local fabricator to build the plate. If you search this forum you can find the plans, or at least a pencil drawing, to give to a fabricator. Mine only cost me about $130. Do you currently have a trim tab on your boat? If you choose to bottom mount the plate (where the current trim tab/plat is) make sure you put the bracket for the rams back far enough that the plate is completely disengaged from the water when the bow rises. If you don't you will get spray. This also gives you more flexibility when moving the plate up and down with the controls.
  20. Maybe he wants to get the slalom ski out and make some turns. His boat should go faster than that. My 230 does 38mph with my surfing prop.
  21. Malibu sinks at launch in high winds

Those XTi's are bow heavy to begin with. They were dumb allowing someone to ride up there. I didn't think the conditions were not fun but really aren't uncommon. Some common sense would have saved this boat.
  22. I like the ability to adjust the gain and thereby control just how much the trailer is braking.
  23. I just did an electric brake conversion on my Boatmate trailer. It was worth every penny.
