  1. Anyone have a dual fuel tank?

I have a factory duel tank in a 2003 avy. 1, there us a separate filler a couple feet down from the primary. 2,there is a manual valve under the engine cover mounted to the ski pilon frame , and a switch by the driver to change the gauge, 3, love mine sorry . 4 , with the exception if the tank and filler neck there are no specialized parts , and even those are available from aftermarket vendors, and if one wanted to automate it there are plenty of parts available for that, older ford pickups had dual tanks
  2. Boat load FAIL!

I have no idea , it's a steep ramp I'm thinking they unhooked the bow strap and the boat slid off while trying to back down. Hard to say I blame them for not wanting to hang around in shame until help shows up. Or everyone was drunk or both
  3. Boat load FAIL!

Spotted this one at lake mohave
  4. I got the gas springs from mcmaster car, they have all the brackets in stainless too. http://www.mcmaster.com/#gas-springs/=fieokw
  5. What bolts are to corroded to remove the coupling bolts? And if so did they let the vdrive and trans hang on the shaft while the engine was out? And how was the alignment completed without seperation of the coupling?
  6. Are the newer boats louder than the old ones. I have sideswipe on my 2003 avy and the noise from the drivers seat is barely noticeable and when moving completely drowned out by wind and water noise. Or am I just used to it and don't know any better.
  7. need some schooling

I have a 2003 avy and have what I believe was the original prop a 3 blade 449 13x12.625 Left rotation. It's stamped on the prop and from the rear of the boat it would turn counter clockwise. There does not seem to be a lot of clearance for anything larger but I have never tried.a 15.25 pitch would be really tall for a 1to1 trans and would not be suitable for wakeboading or surfing.
  8. I used a blow dryer and cleaned up with acetone. Be patient and let the heat do the work.
  9. This has me worried as I store my 2003 avy a lake mohave during the summer where temp around 110 are very common. I have not experienced pinking yet and in hopes of avoiding it I use a blue sunbrella cover with bow to stern support straps and a pole so the cover does not make contact with the vinyl and there is plenty of air space. Nothing yet after 2 summers ,fingers are crossed
  10. Pro X Series Fat Sac

I have sideswipe and 1100 fly high sacs. I made sure there is no sharp edges and run it no cover or anything no problems. There is not enough heat to worry about.
  11. Can you post some details of the quote like labor, engine and parts prices, this sounds like your getting jerked around. I have been a mechanic for many years and find it hard to believe a shop that knows what there doing can't give an accurate quote and gets upset with a little pressure and a few questions.
  12. looks like salt water corosion. Started the problem.
  13. I used to see a lot of cars like that with after market alarms and anti theft devices. Where someone Buchered the harness to install junk that would only create more problems. Or there another relay or switch in the system that failed and this is a hack of a fix. Trace all the wire and see where they go.
  14. Unique Avalache C4

Neat boat but it's a shame and probably a huge decrease in every aspect of performance you would expect out of an avy. I would value it at the asking price minus what it takes to put it back to stock and repair the huge hole in the transom and hull even then is still damaged goods. Need to find a special buyer for that one
  15. After a long day of the lake. I was maneuvering in the slip in high winds and hit reverse slightly harder than normal. Now just a clunking noise forward and reverse.after a quick inspection I found the prop shaft had spun and seperated from the shaft. After several searches it does no apears to be a common problem, making me thing that the nut was not tight and the shaft not seated in the taper so the key sheared and the not spun off.
  16. I didnt hammer it from forward to reverse.just normal docking maneuvering with slightly more throttle in reverse. After the repairs there is less vibration. So I think the coupling was already loose on the shaft
  17. July picture thread

My kids first atempt at surfing, we still have work to do getting the wave dialed in but we had fun anyway.and some wild burros came to visit our day camp
  18. Finally got a pic of the coupling with the sheared key
  19. If the bolts came loose and sheared there may be a distortion on the coupling face or register. The coupling faces and register must be clean and perfectly seated.
  20. I was kind if suprised that the coupling used standard bolts instead of fine thread. Stainless should not be used for this application. Inspection mirror are worth there weight in gold on these boats I keep one in the boat tool box
  21. Your looking at the trans output shaft, the vdrive would not fit through the access hole but moving it provides plenty of room to access the shaft coupling
  22. The pic is the vdrive pulled back ,is one of several picks I wanted to post but the only one that was small enough to actually post. Without the other pics it's kind of irrelevant. I need to get back to a computer to post the rest
  23. I got lucky I had several spare keys. I was on the water so I had to remove the vdrive. This is something I'm now making sure I carry all parts and tools to repair. A new coupling is getting ordered
  24. I'm 3 days into a ten day trip so I repaired it in the slip. I pulled the vdrive installed a new key, luckily it was the same as the prop only shorter. It took about a hour and a half the hardest part was getting the splines aligned for the trans and vdrive.
  25. I cannot get the photos small enough on my phone to post. But the shaft had no damage the coupling keyway was very slightly distorted and the brass key was sheared. Has anyone delt with this before, there was nothing fouling the prop and it would have been a much bigger problem out on the water.
