  1. Since day 1 with my new Avy, I have been wishing it was a C4 model, and not one with the walk-through... I think it's pretty obvious why, more seating and more custom sac room:) So... I decided to take matters into my own hands, and cut the crap out of my boat with my grinder! Didn't get a chance to take a ton of pics, pretty much everything was totally covered in fiberglass dust, and we wanted to go as fast as we could... basically, we just cut out the walk-through with the grinder, and then built in the new bench seat, seat back, sun pad, and engine divider wall. When we were finished with the construction, I took it to a local upholstery shop, and had them make the vinyl pads, and it came out awesome! I then had enough room to get a new custom avy bag made to fill up the whole compartment and under the bench seat. The measurements came out to be the exact same size as the one for the port side I'll try and take some pics of the wave soon... Next up... possible switchblade install!
  2. It's been a summer-long ordeal for me... that's still going on It's a long long story, in a nutshell... I bought a 1579 from JT at Nettle, but the RPM's were way too high... something like 4600-4800 at surf speeds. While I was trying the 1579, I sent him my 1939 to shave some of the diameter off. So, now that prop is somewhere around 13.375" in diameter. It seems to work well, but I get some vibration right through 4000 RPM's. It goes away once we get up to speed, and settles in around 3600-3800 with full ballast at 11.6mph. I can live with this, but I was hoping to get the RPM's down a hair... so I sent the 1579 back to JT to add some pitch... now it's at 13.5" x 15.5" but the RPM's didn't seem to go down that much... so, I'm going to send it back once again to add even more pitch. We shall see... For the record, JT has been amazing to work with! I wish the Fineline warranty department had the same level of customer service.
  3. Anyone know where to find a 5 blade anymore? I can't seem to find them anywhere...
  4. Thanks, I love love love this board. It's super light, and I think going with full carbon helps offset the extra weight of the dual stringers and 6 fins. Jeff is the man, hands down! My next board might also be a HC Pro, I'd love to hear your thoughts when your's is finished.
  5. I'm just pasting the YouTube link directly into the body of the message but it's not working for me. I am trying through Tapatalk... Maybe that's the problem? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Ok let's try this again: That's a 4'7" diamond nose JS Pro... 6 fin, parabolic stringer, full carbon wrap... She's a beaut! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Not sure why it didn't embed correctly? I just copied and pasted the YouTube embed URL into the box??? Maybe I selected the wrong type? I just selected the Auto detect...
  8. <iframe width="476" height="268" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cfiZH_wxXFE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Hope I'm embedding this correctly... My buddy just came out with us and we filmed a few runs with his GoPro... I've never used one before, so I was trying out a bunch of angles and just messing around. Pretty fun!
  9. I tried one out today on my 226... could not get a clean wave, no matter what the setup... tried 6 different placements along both sides. Just a washy mess. I tried every trim tab and quick surf tab setting imaginable, and a dozen different ballast setups... nothing seemed to work. The RPM's were way high, about 4700 and barely getting to speed. My conclusion... not necessary on the 226. I get an amazing wave just fully listed with a touch of the QS tabs. I was optimistic based on the dozens of reviews online, but in the end, the 226 is an incredible surf boat as-is. If it ain't broke don't fix it! Good thing they have a 30 day return policy!
  10. Viking's S226

Yo Viking, I just also bought the Nautic Logic GPS unit... I looked up under my helm to try and plug in there, but could not find the connections... it looks like you found your's under the floor? Did you have to remove the central floor panel to get down there? Did you just follow the cable coming off the paddlewheel? Thanks!
  11. Has anyone ridden one of the Air Series boards for 2016? I'm considering picking up the 139, but there are literally zero reviews of this board online... Sounds like it would be pretty fast and aggressive! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Yes, slam that sucker! I used to bury my rubrail 1-2" below the waterline on my Avy for the darkside... Amazing wave! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Just talked to JT at Nettle, and we are going to try and shave some of the diameter off my 1939 and see if it still performs well enough while bringing down the RPMs... I'm thinking of taking it down to 13.3" x 15.5... I may have a brand new 1579 to sell if that works out... otherwise, we might add some pitch to the 1579... the saga continues!
  14. That's strange... I had the same prop, 1939 (14x15.5) originally, and it performed very well for me... just wasn't enough clearance to the hull and burned a huge hole. I had no problem surfing with full ballast (upgraded to the 1100 in the rear; probably only getting 825lbs or so in it, quick fill tank full, center tank full, 400lbs bag on the seat, and 500lbs of lead spread out) we run at 11.6MPH and with the 1939, I would hold steady at 3400RPMs...
  15. Got tired of waiting for Fineline's warranty department (complete joke IMO) to send me a replacement prop... I've been waiting 2.5 months now for them to send me something... anything! So, I've been doing a ton of prop research and ended up spending my own $500 on a 1579 per everyone's recommendations. Our season is short, and I'd rather throw down my own coin and be surfing, than just sit around waiting for them to clean up their own mistakes. Took it out today, and the RPM's are much higher... fully weighted with only 2 people in the boat, 1 surfing... 4300 RPM's @ 11.6MPH. This seems pretty high to me. With my old 1939, I was at 3400 RPM's. Obviously I have to go smaller in diameter as that burned a huge hole in the fiberglass... but I'm wondering if I could get away with something that has a bit more pitch to reduce the RPM's without killing the hole shot? Maybe the 1405? That's 13.25 x 15.00. JT at Nettles said he would be willing to shave down the diameter on my 1939 and see how that goes... but I think I need something in the middle??? Even with the 1579 at 13.5" diameter, I only have 1/2" clearance to the hull. So, I'm hoping to get something with a slightly smaller diameter to gain some clearance, but with the right amount of pitch to not have my RPM's so high. I know these prop threads have been beaten to death, but even the slightest change seems to have big effects. The wave also seemed to be a bit smaller and less steep on the starboard side... Hard to tell because it was only one quick set, and we didn't have a ton of time...
  16. I have a Johnson plumbed as a cross over between my rear 1100's and I love it! Besides transferring from side to side. I also use it to assist the first stbd fill of the day... hit fill on both port and stbd pumps, and then cross from port to stbd... then do the same thing for the final drain... cross from whichever bag is full, to the other side... wait a minute to let the empty bag fill a little, then drain on both pumps. It's using 3 pumps to do the job of 2, but better than having the second pump just sitting there...
  17. Anyone found an easy way to bypass the ignition for the stereo power? I'm thinking I would just run the power to the stereo switch directly to the battery? Would love to find an easy way to not have the stereo shut off every time we turn off the ignition. This would be on my 2015 S226, but would apply to any boat really... Thanks!
  18. Just took some more photos of my prop burn today... Definitely getting worse. How much clearance can you get away with at minimum? I have about 5/8" right now... I'm thinking of glueing a super thin 1/16" piece of stainless under there for the meantime. This might reduce the clearance closer to 1/2"... You guys think that would be too close? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I just crawled under there today and started looking around. It looks like the entire switch bank is indeed daisy-chained... I can see where the wires from the last switch go to the power post... I can also see another post that I assume is the constant power one? It seems like it would be much easier to just take the end of the daisy chain and switch that to the constant power post. I understand that would mean all of the switches in that bank would always be on (when the Perko is switched on) But, like Viking, I always turn my battery switch off after each outing, and I'm not too worried about leaving the switches on... is there any disadvantage in switching to the constant post?
  20. I had one of these in my Avy for use with my trim tab (not quick surf, just cavitation tab) and they worked well. Although they are not super precise... you can click the tab up or down a few times before the LED indicator moves up or down. In my boat, we barely use the quick surf tabs... just 3 quick taps down:) Which would probably not even register as one mark down on the LED's... but if you are going to be using more of the quick surf tabs, they would be a nice way to get them in the ballpark by reading the LED's, and then just fine tune by eyeballing it.
  21. Still waiting to hear back from Beth on what the new pitch and cup will be...
  22. S226 research

I love my 226... but, I am experiencing the prop wash. It will all be handled under warranty, but beware that 2015 models might all eventually have this. I have the 5.7L at 5300ft elevation and it runs great. I've never wished for the bigger engine. We run about 2500lbs ballast, and list the boat for surfing. We never go over 25mph, our lake is small, and we just do circles at 11.6 all day:) I love the freeboard. I have had no problems with the paddlewheel cruise. I also have the gator grip, but with decadence on top of that. We don't really use quick surf, just to fine tune the wave when listed with any counterweight... with no counterweight, I don't use them at all. In my opinion, it's one of the best bang for the buck boats on the market.
  23. Just heard from Beth... apparently they are making a custom prop for this fix... it's a re-tooled 645 with a more aggressive pitch and cup. She is trying to get exact numbers for the pitch and cup and get back to me...
  24. I finally heard back from Beth... not with any timelines, just that they are waiting on a 645 prop... 13.25 x 16.00 x 0.105... anyone have any experience with this prop? Do you guys think it will be aggressive enough?
