Never tried an actual skim board behind the boat but about a year ago I purchased a 54” Triple x composite and when I asked them what the difference was between this and their skim boards they replied “slightly different but mainly the skim boards do not have any fins.”

The triple x composite is a great board, light weight, handles nice and spins easily. One afternoon I decided to remove the fin (skim style), well, not a good idea. The board was all over the place and I spent a lot of time in the water rather than on the board. (fin got re-installed shortly thereafter)

You may want to check their site as they have many wake surf and skim boards available at very reasonable prices. Their delivery was prompt, packaging was very secure and customer service is excellent.

We rode a $16 skim board for kids at under 4'. You can really ride anything. Skim was super loose cause no fins and pretty much no rocker so it was hard not to catch the nose and go down. It was ok

You can easily ride a skim board behind the boat, the size of the board will depend on the size of the person riding it. Look at the Phase5 line to get length vs. weight requirements on composite style boards, wood and plastic boards might be a little different. Also you can add a standard wakeboard to any board. The thing to keep in mind is, if you drill a hole thru the board for a fin, you must make sure and water proof the hole so water will not leach in the board material.

I would look for a deal like this or this or this and add a fin to it, should be real fun for the kids.
