Centurion Boats Fanatics: Centurion Crew Forums _ Maintenance, Performance, Troubleshooting _ boat gauge?

Posted by: CURT489 Mar 10 2010, 11:12 PM

Has anyone had a problem with the rpm needle getting stuck and not working with the motor running. Also my volt meter stopped working as well. I tried tapping on the face plates to make the needle or something and nothing happened. I pulled the dash out to see if anything came loose behind the gauges it seems to be all intact. Put a volt meter on the battery and alternator and the output voltage is good just no reading at the gauge. Everything worked fine when i winterized the boat in the fall.

These are combination gauges all in one.
Gauge 1. is RPM,oil temp,water psi
Gauge 2. is speed,voltage,fuel

What else should i check for on these things?

I would check the ground wires.. I had a bad ground connection and my fuel gauge stopped working.

mine did the same thing, warranty if it's still under it.

There was a bad batch of guages a while back, with tons of outright failures and weird readings. Just take it to the dealer, should be an easy warranty item.

My boat is a 2003 would that still be under warranty? Also i am in south louisiana are there any dealers that can take care of this issue or do i need to call factory?

Thanks.

Start by finding a Faria dealer or a mechanic who deals with them. It may not be covered if it is an original gauge from '03.

If I am not mistaken, the gauges have either a 5 year or lifetime warranty.

My 2003 gauge sucks! Voltage doesn't work and mph is all over the place. Ebay has them

Your gauge is prob made by faria. You can contact Faria directly. They repaired one of my gauges. http://www.faria-instruments.com/

Was it free? What gauge was broken?

My rpm quit working on the combo rpm, oil, and water gauge. Faria makes mine, and they have a lifetime warrenty, it will cost you $40 for shipping handling, but they told me it could take as long as 2 months to get it back! angry.gif I will send mine in after the season as the rpm on PP still works.

BTW it's crazy how much stuff won't work with that gauge pulled out of the boat. I expected the PP not to work but I couldn't get the engine hatch up, and the trim tab stopped working. Some kind of grounding thing I guess.

I have the pilot 1 multi gauge on the left of my dash. Shows depth, speed, RPM, water temp, battery volts, hours, and a plethora of other stuff. The depth portion of it quit working so I sent it in. It cost me I think $130 to have it fixed. It works most the time now. I am not convinced that the gauge itself was the problem but they said the transducer hardly ever goes out...
