  1. New guy here, purchased 98 Centurion Elite V-drive two months ago. Steering is stiff, mechanic says new cable needed. My boat has an odd second (small) rudder that's positioned just forward of the three skegs. My mechanic says the small rudder has a second cable that he cannot find a part # for. My question is does anyone know the part number or how to get it? Never seen a design like this so kind of at a loss as to how it all works and how it affects the handling of the boat. Thanks for any help!
  2. So the short of it is that my silver adjustable component within the middle of my rudder came out and fell to the bottom of the lake 6 weeks ago (like several others on here). The boat rode and tracked fine without it, but I had it replaced 2 weeks ago under warranty when I knew we wouldn’t be out on the boat. I put the boat back in the water with the new rudder and the boat pulls significantly to the left when at cruising speed (25mph). Video of the tracking issue … wheel has to be turned a little right to keep straight and when I let go turns left - https://youtu.be/Fj0mEny2Q7c. Never did that with my other rudder – very straight when I let go with or without silver tunable rudder component. I’ve adjusted the silver component on the new rudder to compensate for the pull, but it has little effect even when at a pretty severe angle. I even tried it in the opposite direction and it had very little change. I also know I could grind the rudder on the right trailing edge, but I’m not sure it is really a rudder problem at this point – so don’t want to go that route yet. After looking at everything top to bottom - it seems like my CATS might be not centered even though it says it is centered @ 50. While cruising, I can pretty much straighten it out by setting CATS to 70 with just me in the boat (no ballast). Never had to do that before. The dealer did break the wheel off my trailer jack when they lifted the rear of the boat to remove the rudder (they’re in process of putting on new replacement jack). I asked them if the CATS fin got bumped when that occurred. They said no. What do you guys think? Attached photo of my CATS on lift with it saying it is centered, but looks like it is pointing left to me. Also, I’ve attached a view of the wake with CATS at 50, but you can see how the wake is washed over. Could the rudder really do that or is it the CATS? To add insult to injury, my local dealer is saying they aren’t comfortable “tuning” the rudder after getting instructions from Fineline and had Fineline refer me to an out of state dealer (next closest) to have the issue fixed. That’s why I’m looking for additional input at this point … regretting making the rudder change at this point.
  3. I bought a 2002 Centurion Elite V-drive recently, and with a little detective work, I noticed it was leaking from the thru bolts around the rudder post. I figured it must be that the silicone needs replacing and so started the job of taking the thing apart by undoing the tiller arm. I removing the pinch bolt that squeezes the arm onto the top of the rudder shaft, and even removed the bolt holding the tiller arm to the steering arm. However, I cannot remove the tiller arm from the rudder shaft ... there is a keyway in the shaft but no matter how much I wiggle it, the thing will not come off. Do I need to remove the keyway? If so, it's flush with arm, so no idea how I could do that without drilling it out. I have the rudder supported so it can only drop about 1/4 inch, no sure if I need to remove all downward pressure by closing the 1/4 gap? Or can I use a rubber mallet and try tapping the tiller arm?
  4. The adjustment tab on my rudder has come loose and the set screws are missing on my 2008 typhoon, what's the best way to get the right part to fix this. The tab will move up and down on the rudder shaft and spin completely around, i know it needs to be at a fixed offset to the rudder to get the boat to track straight, There is still a piece of the roll pin in the tab but that's all i have. Thanks
  5. Took my new-to-me 05 Centurion Elite C4 on its maiden voyage today. Everything all good except I have no speedo and the steeringwheel (rudder) seems to be 90 deg off to the port side (pulls starboard when positioned straight). I guess my question is, what are some things or logical steps to troubleshoot speedo now that its in my driveway AND can a guy align the rudder and wheel pretty easily? I'm no stranger to the wrenches, just looking for some "check this first" advice before I get to tearing into it, I'd like to get back on the lake fully working ASAP! Thanks in advance! (originally posted in general, but realized post belonged here)

  7. Hey Guys, Need some input here. I just bought a 89 Falcon that has been sitting for some time (relieved when it finaly fired off today) but the rudder was so stiff that you couldn't move the wheel. I pulled the rear deck and took a look and the packing nut was unwound all the way up to the rudder connection point. I tightened down the packing nut a turn (the lock nut is three threads further down and the rudder moves now. Not real soft and easy but it moves. I need to lube things up and check the cable but the through hull connection is only packing right no grease or does it have any lubrication? I can't seem to find any info on this boat anywhere (just sent a note to Centurion asking for help) but I presume that the packing on this rudder is sealed tighter the harder the nut is tightened down is this correct? Do you adjust this like you do a wet packing gland with a slight drip or do you just tighten it down until it stops the water but doesn't bind the rudder? As you can tell I am eager for input to know what I am doing before hitting the water this summer. Thanks in advance for your help!
