  1. Thanks guys.... sorry for the late update but YES it was prop. I put the stock 515 (12 pitch) that I had back on and everything smartened up. Running about 75% load I can easily pull out 11.0+ MPH and it starts to feel like she's strugglin. I'm hunting for a 911 (10 pitch) so that I can sink'er - but very happy with the results of moving from the 14.5 pitch to the 12 pitch. BTW... I did cap and rotor (from the 1997 Chev Avalanche lol) and a set of spec Iridium plugs.... didn't make a hair of difference. The shop plugged in the computer and everything running 100% on spec.... so yeah... ALL PROP!
  2. Bigcat is it inappropriate to say I love you? Thanks for always posting on the forum to help out us newbies! I just went and found the tag on my Velvet Drive and yep - 1:1. So it looks like I'm shopping for a 911. Any suggestions where to buy / how to sell either my 1579 or stock 515? And ideally which one should I hang onto as a spare?
  3. What prop are you running Jacksonfarms?
  4. I'm heading back home later today.... will gets plugs a cap and rotor and report...
  5. I only picked it up in November... we put an hour on it in May and discovered the shaft seal was cooked and it spent the last month in the shop. Asking the previous owner for any logical explanations has proven pointless.
  6. Hi Gang, Symptom: Once loaded for surfing (anywhere past about 1000lbs ballast) I have no top-end speed. Engine won't run much faster then 2100 rpm (about 10.5 mph). We've been trying to diagnose this issue for a while so here is where I'm at: 2005 Enzo SV230 Merc 350 MAG MPI 270 hours, Acme 1579 prop, Fresh Air Exhaust installed. Just got boat back from shop, hooked up computer and tested everything - 100% good. Fuel good, filters both changed, full tank of fresh gas and a can of Sea Foam yesterday. All plug wires checked and in the right spot. Cap and rotor had a little corrosion inside but nothing major (cleaned it our engine still purrs like a kitty with the exception of minor belt whining). Idling at dock I can run it up past 5000 rpm no prob. No load, me alone in boat it runs about 30+ mph across the water and seems fine. Have run with perfect pass active, not active, and completely disconnected (no change). It would be really nice to have more power to hit 11+ mph while surfing. If we load both sacs (2500 lbs) and have 4 heavy in-laws on board then its hopeless.... maybe 9.0 if we're lucky. Items I have not tried: 1) putting the stock Acme 515 back on the boat 2) inspecting / changing plugs 3) replacing rotor & cap 4) ??? other suggestions I am new to the Centurion family and this is our first inboard so I'm learning here. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated... but if the reality is I just have a weak engine and too much weight I'm prepared to accept that.... as far as I'm concerned 330 hp should spin that prop right out of the water load or no load????
  7. xs-650 mounting...

Hi Paycheck - I realize this is a little late but I just had the EXACT same situation... bought the boat with kickers and bought new 650's to replace. I got everything ready to go.... hooked up the wires and dropped it in the can and WTF??? yeah slightly out.... anyway I marked the new holes and cored them out on a drill press and tapped new holes. I missed 1 of the 8 and buggered the aluminum real bad.... so that one bolt is sitting in JB weld. All the others held. Hope you got them in!
  8. Funny thing is.... I just bought it in February and the last thing the seller did before winterizing it was have the 'mysterious vibration' fixed at the shop. After $450 of work they basically did the shaft seal and alignment. The new (longer) bolts threaded straight in without the engine moving so I think it should be good. I emailed the seller to let him know I found the reason for the shaft job..... that the front of the engine was completely free to move and torque around. Doesn't it just give you piece of mind in your 'trained' mechanic? They did all the shaft adjustments and probably moved the motor mounts around all the while NEVER noticing that the mounting bolts were loose. Brilliant!
  9. So.... as it turns out there is a 1/2" aluminum plate bonder UNDER the glass - meaning 3" bolts do not grab them / not long enough. I bought 4" bolts and they thread in no problem and are now nice and snug.
  10. Hi Guys, I'm mid pre-season maintenance on my (first) 2004 Centurion Enzo. While poking around on the engine I found all 4 front engine mount bolts (the 1/2" x 3" bolts that go through the mounting arms into the hull) are biting absolutely nothing. The rear 4 bolts are fine. The bolts look fine (not over torqued) and it looks like at one point they threaded into the steel riser blocks which (I assume) are epoxied to the hull. Does anyone else have stripped holes? (no pun intended) If anyone has any wisdom on this please share!!!
  11. Hi Guys- I posted a while back looking for some experienced knowledge of buying either a Typhoon or an Escalade (Avy). You guys all told me to go for the Avy - but the seller's price was real high and he still seems to want to keep it so... I've recently found a 2004 Enzo 230. 270 hours, only got titled (left the dealer) in 2006 and the (current) owner has taken very good care of her. He has a 1500 lb enzo sac on the port side, with all 3 pumps diverted to fill / drain the one bag. He reports exceptional surfing with that alone. My question - if I'm buying this for 100% surfing - is the 2004 Enzo hull the same (or similar) to the new Enzo's that everyone is raving about? In my mind "Enzo = Amazing Surfing" but I want to make sure that it applies to the older hulls as well, otherwise I will keep shopping for an Avy from that era. Thanks!
  12. I will work on the Avy/Escalade. He's asking $29,900 with no sacs, rear tanks or FAE - seems a little high to me but it only has 130 hours. My concern is it has a MONSTER stereo system that he's trying to get money back for - and that doesn't have alot of value to me. Here is his ad: The cleanest 2003 wakeboarding boat you will ever find! 2003 Ski Centurion Escalade V Drive Wakeboarding boat with 130 original hours. Merc 350 which is the big boy, brand new impeller and steering cable and runs absolutely amazing, tons of power. Huge wake with ballast system. Interior is in great condition. Tinted windowns (limo tint), dual axel trailer with trailer brakes and BRAND NEW TIRES (all 4). Just installed a CRAZY LOUD CLEAN SOUNDING STEREO SYSTEM. Kenwood Deck, all new polk audio speakers inside, 4 kicker speakers on tower powered by a 1500 watt amp, hidden inside 2 Alpine typre R 12's powered by a 2000 watt amp that absolutely pounds, one of the loudest systems on the lake guranteed!!! Not in a situation to have to sell, just dont use as much as I would like to due to traveling for work. Oh yah and a custom cover that covers the entire boat, so protects it while outside. And comes with an extra brand new prop Also here are the 3 pics... what do you guys think as far as price / value of what it is worth??
  13. Thanks guys this is amazing support from the community! I can't wait to surf Centurion! Here is a pic of the transom of the Typhoon. From what I can tell it does have the 'cutouts' - in which case I am leaning towards the Escalade / Avy. (I adjusted the contrast to show the lines better - it was a really dark picture of a black boat - go figure!)
  14. Wow! Thanks guys for all the advice - I'm glad to hear that those coming from Moombas noticed a huge difference - makes me want to buy sooner. Rhuntlll: Thanks for the note on the trim tab - that's kind of what I was expecting. Honestly I thought this would have been a unanimous nod to the Typhoon - but I'm now leaning towards the Escalade (Avalanche). It has the lower hours and it seems like the owner is motivated to sell it sooner cause he wants to buy a house. It also has a kick tush stereo. I think I can buy some sacs and pumps to start out for ballasts. Thanks again for the info guys - anyone else feel free to chime in!!!
  15. Hi Guys, New to the forum and hoping to buy my first Centurion in the next few weeks so I can be surf ready for Summer. I know we've gone over surfing ballast setup many times before - but I'm looking for experienced advice on the following purchase and here are my parameters: 1) I'm looking at 2 boats about the same price ($28k), both in VERY nice shape, both seem like rather meticulous owners. BOAT #1: 2003 22' Escalade (which I gather is a barebones avalanche), 130 hrs, manual trim tab, center ballast only. Owner reports surfing is good with 2-3 buddies on board (???). Maybe they had lots of beer on board? BOAT #2: 2003 23' Typhoon (based on avalanche hull???), 465 hours, power trim, all the Storm Package toys, 3 factory hard ballast and 2 fat sacs included (a 700 and a 400), has the larger 6.2L engine 340hp. 2) I'm looking for advice specifically for surfing, as that is what we will use the boat for 99% of the time. 3) My reference for surfing (on port side / regular) is my brother's 2002 Moomba Mobius V 22', center bag full (500), port locker bag full (700), starboard side locker bag about half (300), 250 bag strapped to the tower on port side, and several obese in-laws on board, usually to sit on the back sun deck. It is quite a ridiculous arrangement of bags and people - I'm not terribly experienced but we have thoroughly enjoyed that ride - but I'm hoping to be blown away once riding Centurion. While I'm not expecting 2013 Enzo size waves - I'd like to be really happy with my purchase and get lots of use from the boat. Comment away!!!! Thanks in advance!
