I took my 02' V/M dual axel (shown in my pictures) To get it looked at. The resason being that both hydraulic drum brakes on both sides of the front axel start smoking from extreme heat.I mean these suckers were so HOT, that I thought the tires were going to melt off! The rear axes don't have brakes, so they were fine.
Now, this was only happening on the way HOME from the lake, which is a 25 minute tow...The way there shows NO sign of heat nor smoke.
So I take it to a RV/Trailer repair shop close to where I work in Redwood City, CA. First visit, the guy repaced the brake master cylinder, saying it goes bad when it locks but does not unlock, resulting in me frying my brakes. I paid $300.00 and he repalaced that and cleaned out the brake lines, which he said were filthy. I found that hard to belived because the trailer appeared to be pristine underneath and in the nooks/crannys. I towed the boat home with no problem, just like how I towed it there. Because the heat/smoke only appeared to be happening when it was pulled out of the lake.
So last week, I noticed a dripping of brake fluid above the right side drum brake/line in my driveway. I immediately called the guy and told him of the leak. He said bring it on back. On top of the $300.00 I already paid, He wants another $490.00 for complete the job, expalining that he needed to re do the entire brake job the first time. This new bill includes new brake pads (both sides) and the labor.
In a nut shell, does $800.00 sound proper for a full brake job on this trailer? My old V/M trailer on my Falcon was single axel with 0 problems in 7 years. The mechanic swears up and down he is giving me a break on the price.
I know its a long one, but any imput will be much appreaciated!
