Evolution tower speakers
Dale replied to zapisor's topic in Centurion Boat Accessories, Electronics and Modifications
I just had the same speakers put in my Enzo and the stereo shop put in an Alpine amp that is about the size of a cigar box and delivers 300 amps to each speaker. Sounds great. I don't think you can go wrong.... -
I finally got around to having the tower speakers installed. I bought the Wetsounds Pro 80's (one pair) and had them installed with an Alpine amp that delivers 300 watts to each speaker. They sound great and have all the horsepower any reasonable family guy (like myself) could want!! So far, my only issue is they have wobbled/bounced loose. I think the installer was reluctant to over tighten the mounting bolt because the tower is made of cast aluminum and might easily strip the threads. Does anyone have experience with stripping out bolts in the evolution tower? Or, can I tighten away? Thanks

I bought it and would gladly pay to the $1,000 (or so) I paid for it to get rid of the "jet-boat" noise. You made the right decision.

I had another idea that may work for towing with a cover on. Does anyone have thoughts about using that stretch wrap to protect the gel coat before putting the cover on? I was thinking about pulling the stretch wrap around the boat at the level of the rub rail, with a bias toward the top, to keep the cover from scratching the gel coat. This sounds similar to the idea someone floated about using blue painter's tape, but it may be cheaper and faster. Please let me know if anyone thinks this may/may-not work. Thanks

Thanks. I'll look for your post with the telephone number. I've considered selling my boat because of the noise but a muffler could change how I feel about it.

I hate the noise from the Sideswipe exhaust!! I would not have ordered it if the dealer had told me what to expect with the noise. In fact, I would now happily pay $1,000 (roughly the up-charge I paid to get the Sideswipe) to get rid of the Sideswipe and have the conventional exhaust. If anyone knows how to quiet this thing, please let us Sideswipe owners know. Till then our boats will continue to sound like jet boats from the 1980's...

Wakeupnride, You talked about the padded hooks that hold the cover at the rub rail. Do you have apicture that shows those hooks you can post? I live in California, so rain is a very rare event and not a concern. My primary interest in towing with a cover would be to avoid cleaning up that thin layer of dust that seems to accumulate if I tow on the freeway for any period of time. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Till I save enough for my dream boat, I'll keep using my current one (show here in white with red).

A couple more days like today in the stock market, and this boat is mine!!

Duramat - Sounds like there was a big dark cloud over your truck/boat before you left the driveway! Next time do a quick check of the weather before heading out!!

Big Show - Congrats on the new Envo! Is the "shark skin" cover the canvas cover that comes from the factory? Thanks for the help

My boat (Enzo 240) cover came with tie-downs that look strong enough to be used while towing. Does anyone tow their boat with the cover on? Does it keep the interior cleaner? Does it scuff the gel-coat? Any advice? Thanks

I'm curious to know other boat owner's favorite lakes and why. I'm especially interested to know of favorite lakes that are: 1. In California 2. Have water-front private property (preferably acerage) I recently sold a property at Lake Nacimiento that was +/- 13 acres on the water and I'd like to replace it with something else. The wild water level fluctuations at Nacimiento were a little bit of a hassle for me. I think my ideal lake would be like Nacimiento but have a reasonably stable water level. Dose your favorite lake fit that bill?

Are the Wetsounds Pro 80 speakers a good choice? Is there a reason to have two pair or is one adequate? Is there a better choice?
