  1. Ramfill Recall

Dang, that blows...good luck Duane. I agree with Bongo, I would be livid as well. To much coin to spend to have to deal with any kind of issues let alone almost swamping your boat. Was it literally leaking so bad the bilge couldn't keep up? Anyway, from what I've seen they'll make good on their promises but should have never made it out of the factory with those issues.
  2. Yeah check paddle wheel, sounds like your issue...hopefully just a faulty connection.
  3. Sorry, PP doesn't power up at all or just doesn't read speed? Also, when you say PP and Speedometer do you mean the PP and the seperate analog speedometer multi guage or do you just mean the speed reading on the PP? If just speed, than likely paddle wheel issue or check connections at paddle wheel and guages would be my guess. Also, you can manually spin paddle wheel and have someone else see if it's registering. Good luck. Also, don't forget you have RPM mode, assuming it powers on, until you get it all worked out....works as well, if not better, than speed once you figure out the correct RPM to set it to.
  4. Do you have PP? If so check the RPMs there. My analog tach bounces all over the place but the PP shows the sender is working just fine. Maybe check connections on back of guage. I would start with what Tommy said as that seems to be a common issue. Chief could be on to something as well if you're realizing it at high speed. Good luck...nice thing is now that you've driven the boat 40mph there is no reason to drive it that fast again. I think the majority of us on here never go above 30mph and have props made for towing not cruising at speed. It just burns to much gas and the boats not really intended for those speeds. Not that they can't do it but what's the point...my two cents. Good luck and welcome.
  5. My pump didn't have an internal float so I just bought a cheap float switch and I couldn't be happier because it's been working flawlessly since I got it and I put it in a really easily accesible spot to service if necessary. Sometimes cheap and simple works better than overcomplicated and expensive.
  6. What are the "magnetic plugs" for if you have a "drain plug". Are they used to collect sediment or something so you have to take them out and clean them off...is that the point? I've never changed mine and it still looks brand new but I will probably do it anyway just to be safe. Thanks.
  7. Need help with amp settings

Hey guys, so I am going to be running 4 Polk DB650 inboats off a PCA 465 (4 x 65 at 4 Ohms). What should I set the various amp settings to…I’m sure you audio guys will say it depend so I’m just looking for a typical starting point. It has the following: Bass Boost (OdB – 12dB): Low Pass (50Hz – 250Hz): Hi Pass (50Hz – 250Hz): Crossover Selector (LP – HP – Flat) Level/Gain (8v – 0.3V): I understand the gain is to match whatever the headunit is sending and I read a bit on how to tune that but as far as everything else I have no idea where to start. Not looking for a bunch of bass from 6” speakers if that helps. Phil did a write up, on another forum, on how to set the IX500.4 for my Kickers so I'm good there.
  8. Need help with amp settings

Thanks fellas, I'll try something in that 80hz range and go from there. I appreciate the info. Very helpful, I had no idea where to start so this should get me to where I can at least experiment a bit. I'll let you know how it goes. On a different but somewhat related note, drilling 5" holes in fiberglass with a cheap harbor freight hole saw is a lot of work. Came out nearly perfect but thought I was going to burn through a drill. Still have one more to do.
  9. Need help with amp settings

Thanks Wylie, no sub so just the 4 inboats and the kicker tower speakers. IX500.4 for the kickers and the PCA 465 for the polk inboats. No intentions of running a sub. So set the selector to HP and I'm good or do I need to adjust the Hi Pass, Low Pass, Bass Boost. If so, suggestions. I appreciate the help.
  10. Lake House

I know when I go looking to spend $10.5 Million on a vacation home the first place I look is Craigslist, classifieds of the rich and famous.
  11. Is it all the time or just after fill up....for some reason my 02 Cyclone has a strong smell of gas after I fill up but I haven't seen any leaks, etc. either. Interested in what you find. Typically the smell goes away after I burn through a bit of the gas.
  12. Pretty certain the pump itself has an internal float but not positive. Just noticed the other topic, I would suggest requesting this one to be deleted. Is that curling in your avatar?
  13. Oil Change Hose?

Dang, great idea....going to try that next time. I have the manual pump as well....works great, as long as you have a nice tight seal. If you decide to go the dipstick route, the goal is to stick a tube in that's nice and tight, not one that you can snake down to the bottom. If it's not tight you will hear air escaping and it won't flow very well. I only put mine in about a half an inch, (insert that's what she said joke), and it works perfect. Good luck.
  14. Oil Change Hose?

I don't know whether it will or not but do yourself a favor and get get something to pump it out the dipstick.....sooooo much quicker. I should admit I'm very impatient, some will just use the hose and walkaway for awhile.
  15. Drought

Yeah they're pretty small but the boating population is also pretty small and most people run there boats in mission bay...which I won't do. Up until this year it was fine assuming you got up early but now the lake is so narrow it's hard to find decent water. If you haven't heard they constructed something like the largest damn raise in north America and have significantly raised the size of the san Vicente damn and, as a result, the size of the reservoir itself. They're currently working on the marina and access roads. Should be pretty nice; unfortunately, it's been closed for 4 years and may be closed another 3 so we're stuck at El Capitan. From what I've heard it could open as early as next year but they need to fill it and with the drought it's taking much longer than expected. Anyway, yeah San Diego pretty much sucks for boating unless you run it in saltwater and don't mind boating with complete idiots. Hopefully San Vicente will be as nice as they're advertising. They had plans for a cable park in Santee but that got shut down for some reason.
  16. Drought

Our reservoir is so low they dropped it from a 100 boat, water contact, limit to 25 and limited activity to the front portion of the reservoir. It's at about 35%...was at 70%+ 3 years ago. There's a couple reasons, outside of the amount of rain, for the severe drop but it's certainly not helping.
  17. I don't have an opinion on the boat other than it looks beautiful but definitely do your research on the sideswipe. Everything I remember reading from people on this forum was that it was ridiculously loud and annoying, to the point that I think a couple people even had it rerouted back to the transom...I could be wrong but yeah, most of what I remember was that it was going to be cool and turned into kind of a pain. Pretty sure they don't offer it anymore so take that for what it's worth. If you had an FAE it's only going to make the noise that more significant and no I don't think there is anything to baffle/silence the noise. They also don't make an FAE for it, that I know of, since the purpose of the sideswipe basically negates any need for one...other than the noise.I think someone on here, maybe they'll chime in, tried to install some type of inline silencer, something like that, but it didn't do much. Just my two cents, I have the traditional exhaust system out the back without an FAE and I think that's to loud. Anyway, good luck. It is a nice looking boat that for sure and performance wise it's going to be top notch.
  18. http://www.bakesonline.com/images/MediaLibrary/Indmar_09-10ECMmanualv1.2.pdf SPN 731, FMI 4 - Knock 1 Sensor Open or Not Present Not sure if this helps, it came up when I did a search. Anyway, start looking at page 147. Not a mechanic but I'm good at searching for things other people figured out. Not sure this is going to be much help unless you understand what the heck it's talking about...which I do not. Good luck.
  19. Ha, I came in here expecting some heart wrenching tale and get a picture of a dude holding on to a keg with a can of beer in his hand. Awesome.
  20. Hey guys a lot smarter than me…I have some questions about an amp install I’ll be doing this weekend I was hoping you could help me with. I primarily need some help with the fuses, etc. as I’ll be running a single power wire to an unfused distribution block, same for the ground. I have two amps, a Kicker IX500.4 (No onboard fuses but recommends an 50a inline) and a PCA 465 (60a onboard – 2 x 30a). I was planning on running 2 guage wire from the battery to the distribution block for both the power and ground wires. I planned on putting an inline fuse between the battery and distribution block. The wire will only be about 18 inches long in total, including length of fuse holder. Question #1 – What size fuse should I use. I keep reading the fuses are to protect the wires, not the amps. Not sure I understand that. Should I put a fuse close to or equal to the two amps, 110, or is based on the wire, etc? If so, would a 100a fuse be enough. I’ll need to by a new fuse holder and fuses if I need anything over 100. Eveything I read suggested something 125 or higher. Question #2 – Is 2 gauge wire sufficient. I should also add that I went to home depot and bought some 2 guage, thick stranded wire. What I have read is that basically the only difference would be in the flexibility, short distance so doesn’t really matter, and ability of jacket to repel oil, etc…putting in boat nowhere near anything corrosive materials so figured I was good. From the distribution block I will run 4 guage power wire to the IX500.4 and 8 guage to the PCA 465 as suggested by the manuals. The IX500.4 recommends an inline 50a fuse which I will install. The PCA 465 has two 30a onboard fuses. Question #3 – Should I include an inline fuse from the block to the PCA 465? As I mentioned it has onboard fuses and I read this can actually be kind of redundant and even potentially give me a worst connection so not to bother. If I should, should it just equal the 60a that’s on the amp? I plan to basically do exactly the same thing for the ground wires except there will be no fuses obviously. Thanks guys, feel free to make any recommendations. I'll probably have more questions after this.
  21. I think it's just an add on to use gps instead of a paddlewheel....it's not cruise control but can be added and used with PP as an alternative to the paddlewheel. I am considering it but I run quite a bit on a river and my paddlewheel works well for now. If I had to replace the paddlewheel I would probably just go with the gps. As far as the paddlewheel is concerned, real easy....get down under the boat and give it a spin. Have someone monitor speedo(s). Check connections. Good luck chadr.
  22. Yeah you're probably fine, load it up with some weight and if you still don't get vibrations you're good to go in my opinion. I had a very slight ding in my prop, barely noticeable, and it only vibrated under a semi heavy load.
  23. Don't forget you can use RPM on PP...it actually works really well. Like Kevin said you likely have a paddlewheel problem or a loose connection. If PP/Throttle worked then the servo probably isn't the issue but you can also check it really easily so you might as well. How many things are you running for speed. I had the pilot, the analog, and the PP all running off the paddlewheel and it didn't do well. Disconnected the analog speedo and it worked great. Guess it was just to much of a split in signal for three guages. Something to consider. While I have towed hundreds of miles and never had an issue, they say you should tape up your paddlewheel while you tow, long distances, otherwise it can spin while dry and burn up/melt. Never seen this but makes sense. I think it just depends if the air flow is getting down there and causing it to spin. Anyway, good luck.
  24. Amp install - Wires, Fuses, Distribution Blocks

All the charts I looked at suggested with the very short distance I'll be running the wire that the 2 guage, etc. was a bit overkill but I'm going to run it anyway. With that, the wire looks legitimately like 2 guage wire but instead of the hundreds of fine strands its made up of maybe twenty really thick copper strands so it's rigid/stiff. Definitely not something I would consider running through a car or anywhere you would have multiple twists and turns but my battery is a foot from where the amps will be so I think I'm okay. I'll probably buy some new cable later on...long story short I forgot to buy it, thinking I had some at home, went to homedepot for something else and happened to pass by the electrical section. Cable was$1.50/foot so it was worth the $6 just to try it out. I did some research and it said essentially the only difference was the flexibility and the ability to last in corrosive environments, i.e. engine compartment. Anyway, we'll find out this weekend. Wylie, that dist block you suggested was perfect and actually cheaper than the two I bought....should have asked you first. Might pick that up later as well. My buddy wants to do something very simple in his boat so I can probably convince him to take my old stuff once we tackle that project chenige, thanks for the list/links. I have most of what I need but I might be upgrading as I go. for now I'm pretty set. Well I need a 100a fuse, that's about it. I'm surprised at the price difference in some of these things, I think I paid $5 for the inline fuse holder and it had great reviews. That one is pretty pricey. I'm sure the quality is much better and if you just spent several grand on amps/speakers there's no point skimping on installation parts. Tommy, so running two 4 guage leads off of a 2 guage lead isn't an issue? I was a little concerned about running a 4 guage and an 8 guage from a 2 guage/dist block. Good to see that shouldn't be an issue. Again, I think running very short distances negates a lot of these worries but I'm no audio installation expert. I hear that all the time about the wire, I definitely have some from a cheap amp kit that says 4 guage and it's mostly just a thick jacket covering what looks like maybe 8 guage.
  25. Amp install - Wires, Fuses, Distribution Blocks

Thanks guys, I was planning on running a fused block for the power lines but ended up with an unfused block and some inline fuse holders instead...not really sure why, probably cost. Im going to roll with what I have for now but I might order up a fused block sooner than later. Thanks again for the help.
