The water situation here in Cali is looking really bad bad. Shasta Lake may shrink to 1977 levels if no rain.

Any folks have experience with launching at Shasta during record low water levels? Boating experience during those periods?

I'm likely going to cancel my yearly trip to Shasta for '14. We typically rent a cabin at Surgarloaf Cottage Resort the week of Father's Day but I just can't see spending $3k plus to drive 5 hrs to a lake that's so low. Currently they're around 35% full with a higher outflow than inflow with no rain in the forecast.

Yes.... jpd

There are alot of dirt ramps around shasta. I stayed in a lake house in september and i could not use the cement ramp due to how low the water was. so right next to the cement ramp was there 1960 's dirt ramp, put the truck in 4wd and unloaded and loaded no problem.

We stayed in the lake head section and really had to stay in the center of the coves and channel, keep an eye out for an thing!

Lake Naciemento is suppose to be down to 18% on the first of the new year. The other lake next to us is Lake San Antonio and it's 5% right now. If we don't get ANY RAIN THIS WINTER we will be 4 wheel driving the dried up lake bed looking for old sunken boats. PRAY for us California's to get Rain. This is the biggest drought on record

Lots of Indian Casinos here in California. I think I am going to go talk to the tribal leaders and see if it is possible to organize a massive state wide Rain Dance......I know......not politically correct.....but we have to do something!

I feel your pain on the whole drought thing. We couldn't get on our home lake for 2 years straight. The good news is that it recently filled to 100% and we're good for 2 more years minimum. I'll be hoping the same thing happens in your case!

Hey, the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley, CA were saved by 10 Piute Native Americans who performed a snow dance so anything's possible! http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1310&dat=19591204&id=UkoVAAAAIBAJ&sjid=9eIDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3776,523589

Great find....I did not know that. Wonder if that Chief is still alive?

Doubt it, but WOW, that was fun going back through old newspapers and reading the articles and looking at ads. A freaking entire pool table, only $49 bucks! LOL 1959 was a grand year, too bad I was't even thought of collecting a few cells going in a uterus.

Know when every one does this make sure to go into you Garage a grab a hatchet and if you don't have one get a hammer. Run back into the house and put on your board short and start the rain dance around your BBQ pit or fire pit. Oh make sure you can get any of your family members to help. You neighbors might look over the fence to see what your doing but, they maybe thing your have a Luau and you didn't invite them. So call all your neighbors and start dancing

(Note: That I was not trying making any fun at Native Americans)

I might have to pass on boating trips in July and August since the water level might be so low at the lake that we go too. It's been so warm over here my plants think it's spring and are starting to bloom.

I'm thinking I won't be doing very many trips this year means I'll have to go further away then normal.

We usually go to New Hogan, Woodward, and Don Pedro. The good thing is that they usually keep Woodward full the entire year and only let out a little so you don't have to worry about low spots but you'll have to listen to drunks at 2 in the morning playing mariachi music. :zorro::D
