2017 RI217 Prop Options

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 2017 RI217 with the 409 HP engine.  The prop that I have on it is the Acme 1589.   I feel like it has a hard time getting on plane and is always working hard.  When surfing I am running at about 4100 RPM.  I was wondering if anyone has upgraded the prop to a bigger diameter and had any insight to what it did for fuel economy and details like that.  I called Acme and they recommended model 2279 which is a 15"x15.75.  I have also called boardco and they recommended an acme 3145 which is a 16"x13" prop.  Does anyone have any recommendations to help me to lower the RPM's on the boat and make it more efficient.

I agree with Boardco, 16x13 is a great prop for the 409 if you’re at elevation. There’s also a newly released Acme 3337 which is a 16x15 for the 1-1/8th shaft if you’re closer to sea level.

For reference, our Fi23 surfs l around 3400-3800rpm depending on crew size with 500lbs of adfitional lead if that helps.

What prop is on you’re f123 and what motor?

We are at about the same elevation I have a fi23 with 409 and my friend has a 17 ri 217 we are both running the 15.5 X 15.5 surfing at 3600 to 3800. I tried the 16 X 13 and have it as a spare but be warned you get prop growl with it. It does not hurt anything but is annoying.  We get the same performance with the 15.5 X 15.5 but no growl

My boat only has a 1 1/8" shaft on it so it will not fit the 16" prop.  Do you know when they switched to the bigger shaft?

Like already said they make a 16" prop to fit 1 1/8 .I have one but prefer the 15.5 X 15.5

H, what prop came with your boat? And what difference do you see when you changed, in rpm at surf speed and the amount of power you have left at surf speed?

Stock was 15 X 14.25 surf rpms were 4500.it dropped rpms and still has plenty of power. It does not struggle to get to speed. Engine goes to 4000 rpm then settles to surf speed quickly
