Hull Blisters on fs33

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 fs33 and just noticed that I have blistering on the hull of the boat.  The blistering is where the boat sits on the lift bunks.  Anyone else having this issue? The boat is never left in the water other then when we are using it.  The boat is lifted out of the water in a covered slip.

I leave my fs44 in the water for 2 months at a time, never a sign of blistering.  i even live in the south and our water is hot.  not sure why that happened to you, see what the dealer can do, its not common on centurion boats (at least i am familiar with)  this is my 3rd enzo, and have never had an issue.  only wax it before the season and never an issue.

just got my boat back from winterizing and they lifted it, waxed it, not a spot.  I was always worried about this because we keep our boat in the water (water level in summer not deep enough when we draught for a lift).  We are at the end of a finger on our lake and the water gets little movement in front of our house and it gets in the mid 90's through the summer and still no issues.  It could be the PH of the water, (guessing), but hope you get a resolution

You can talk to LOTS of people about gel coat blistering and you'll get just about as many reasons as to why it happened...If you talk to a fiberglass guy about it, they'll tell you that it's a manufacturing defect. I've heard them claim this happens during the process of clearing their gel coat spray lines (flush with water, followed by high-pressure air) and that if any water remains in the lines, there's going to be gel coat issues. But when it only happens to the sections that come in contact with your boat, that theory seems to fly out the window! In my opinion, there has to be an issue with the gel coat manufacturing when this happens.

WHY ON EARTH WOULD A BOAT BLISTER IN WATER WHEN IT IS MEANT/BUILT TO BE IN WATER??!! Personally, I think the whole water PH theory is goofy, because that would mean you'd hear about everyone's boats developing blisters on your same lake no matter the manufacturer. Every dealer would be recommending you bottom-paint your boat if the water was crap, right? Does Mineral Lake have more than your average amount of minerals in it? You're already hearing from other Centurion owners that moor their boats without touching it and no blisters...why is that? You can literally have two of the exact same boats moored on the SAME lake, and one will have no issues and the other will develop gel coat blisters (if there's an issue with the gel coat spray process). See if you can find any other Centurion owners on your lake experiencing the same thing to help build your case. Your boat is covered by a 5 year hull warranty, contact your dealer and work with Centurion to rectify the situation :)

Also, once you get the gel coat blisters fixed, make sure to replace those carpeted lift bunks with rubber ones to avoid dealing with this in the future! I had read about guys having blisters under their carpeted bunks in the past so I made sure when searching for lifts, I went with Sunstream that used rubber bunks.

I have the same boat as you. On LKA we wet slip and in Annapolis it sits on a lift. I haven't seen any blistering. Did you get it from Lake Country? Should still be covered by warranty.

I was looking at a glastron with blistering, I got very nervous about it and almost passed on a great deal. However I went for it, it was docked in the water may threw October and every year maybe one would break or crack open it was very minor about size of penny. I would in the spring sand it with air sander and use the marine Tex stuff and you could hardly tell.

long story short it was getting worse every year but far less then any wear on the boat and wasn't a problem at all and I went back any fourth about buying it for weeks.
