Belt Cover for PCM ZR 409

Hi folks.  I have a 2010 Centurion Enzo, and the belt cover has broken twice.  I've replaced it once before, and I'm wondering if I really need to replace it again.  My mechanic said I really don't need it...so I'm throwing it out to you to let me know if it serves any purpose.  I know it will keep my fingers away from the belts while the engine is running, but I really can't reach back into that confined space anyway (and definitely wouldn't stick my hand back there when the engine is running).

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Don

Responded in the other posts, but these pictures bring up an issue that I had. If this broke off and the belt rub against it at all, you'll want to change the belt out as well. I ended up changing the belt and the tension wheel on the starboard side because the belt rubbed against my cover and it partially melted onto the wheel. (This is why my dealer took it off and never put it back on until they ordered me a new one).
