Whats Your Surf Speed RPM?

Recommended Posts

Cwazy1    89

There has loosely been talk here and there where members mention what rpm their boats are running.

I want to see what everyone is running here

1. Boat model and year

2. Prop (if you know, if not, lets assume stock)

3. Surf speed

4. Total ballast weight with crew size

5. Surf speed

just looked and it's a 13X17 497, the prop came on the boat. My boat only had 22 hours on it when I bought it in 2014 and nothing was modified on the boat when I bought it, so I'm assuming its stock.

Ahh and I forgot to add I have the center ballast as well.

How does that happen? A 6 year old surf boat that the owner only put 22 hours on it? I had 22 hours on my boat in the first 3 weeks!

1. '15 FS33

2. 1615

3. 11.5

4. around 4000lbs listed

5. 33-3500rpms

Cdifranco, At one point I was running the 15" 2279 prop and my RPMs were around 25-2700, but those RPMs are too low and not in the ideal power band. Start at post 28: http://www.centurioncrew.com/index.php/topic/10365-fs33-prop-size/page-2 The malibu link there is really informative, if you're going to keep it another season or two you might want to change the pitch to take the stress off of the engine.

Boat has a for sale sign on it as we speak, unfortunately nobody has any idea about what's going on with these new boats so it does look like I'll be keeping it for another year, I think the easiest thing for me is to add more weight!

I have grown accustomed to how quiet the boat is when we surf too lolol

I was planning on getting another prop over the winter time, can anyone recommend which would be the right prop for my boat? we pretty much primarily surf, wakeboard maybe twice a month

I would call Acme props. They're pretty helpful guys. You will need to know what you're running for RPMs at surf speed and what you're trying to do with the prop (increase/decrease RPMs).

Stock weight. It's less than 4000 I suppose.

Bow 500lbs

PNP's 800lbs

STBD Ramfill 1500lbs

Port Ramfill 750lbs

Total 3550lbs

Just tried having 110lbs of lead under the STBD side seat... didn't really notice anything different. It's such a small amount. I really notice a change in the wave when the bow bag self drains! Winter mod in the mix.

Mine drains all the time, every time my wife drives around I can see it. I'll be drinking a lot of tequila this off season...

I definitely notice the lead when I have it versus when I don't. But I'm also running 600lbs of it. I also notice when we're less than half a tank

We cross vented our new custom port pro bag and still get tons of run off......Petron it is!

I don't even know how we'd cross vent a bow bag. I'm thinking that because everything is timer based and I calibrate it twice a season, I may just do away with the vent line completely. It's dangerous if time runs too long, so I might just decrease the time 30 seconds.

As I'm thinking about it, might as well tear out the PnP vents as well. It will just be on me to check the timers regularly

I wouldn't do away with the vents. The bags will get air in them with the water no matter what you do. You need to vent. It's too dangerous in my mind. You can manually vent the PNP's. But, I'm lost on what to do with the bow though.
