2002 Avy/Merc 350 MPI not starting

Last time out on the lake I had a starting issue.

 

I'll turn the key I here the gauge alarms and the fuel pumps run. When they stop I turn the key and hear a click and nothing.

 

Tomorrow I try again in the shop.

 

For now I need any schematics or links for schematics of the starter location on the engine.

Now the power is good. I'm hearing a click around the engine fuse reset. I'll try to get pics, I'm in a remote area.

She cranked right over on the first try and now like on the water its hit or miss.

This is what I've come up with, I found a loose terminal and a zip tie. The termination was sound but loose on the inside of the fuse. Will this fuse keep the boat from starting? With a loose connection on the inside make it a hit or miss when starting? Off to find parts.

So I bypassed the fuse with a pair of needle nose pliers and the boat fired 4 out of 4 times.

All mercruisers have those breakers, my dad's 1980 glas ply has the same one...

After searching the web I'm finding that some of the part numbers on the link above are obsolete. Monday I will be calling boats.net to double check my order. This is the company I ordered all my filters and what-nots for my yearly maintenance last year. The distributor cap has changed as well. I'm thinking it might be better to have everything fresh for the crew meet this year.

I jumped the gap and got it to start numerous times

anyone know if this is a proprietary part or would it be readily be available from a big marine dealer like a marine max (not my first choice but 45 miles away and biggest dealer around)

Sorry to be so impatient but we leave for vacation on Wednesday so that hinders delivery time

Finding this breaker in stock in my neck of the woods is impossible. Ordering it off the internet will be my best option.

 

I would think that any 50 amp resettable breaker would work, just finding a way to mount it will take some thought.

 

Opinions on modifying this breaker of installing one from a different manufacturer are welcome .

Glad you found the fix! If you can't get the correct part in time, any 50 should get you by. Even a Temporary 50 fuse wired in line should work until the correct part comes in.
