Both of our family vacations this summer involve towing the boat long distances and I'm wondering what you all do to protect your boat from stone chips/road rash. I know there was a thread awhile ago about this but I can not find it. I have seen the net type things that mount to the front of the trailer which I'm not really interested in. I'm just interested in what everyone uses so I can get some ideas of what works best. I'm really looking forward to taking the boat to some new places but don't want to damage it up in the process.

I did come across this thread and it's not the one I remember. That pretty much only talks about the netting type protector that I'm not really a big fan of. What does everyone else use?

You can always contact Featherlite Trailers and ask them about there enclosed boat trailers. A lot of the Pro Fishing guys here have them with all there gear and stuff in there and some come with sleeping quarters. The guy in our town has one that carrys 2 boats but pulls it with a Mac truck. Looks like one of those NASCAR trailers. Very pimp, but not for me.

When we get back on our feet and start traveling with the boat we will use the Mud Flap Hitch thingy like WakeDoc. I think that is a good inexpensive way to protect the boat.

WakeDoc Where do you get those flaps from? Looks like a great Idea and about how much do they run? I am planning to drive 8 hour trips pulling the boat to Lake Tahoe and Lake Shasta this summer year. I never had any damage in the past but it's better to be protected.

Here's another option, the one we will probably buy when that day comes.

I have seen this one in person, looks pretty sharp. Called Rock Tamers. The cheapest I have seen them is on Costco's website for $179

I use that industial shipping wrap, its like heavy duty saran wrap and I beef it up at wear points with packing tape. It allows me to put the cover on for long trips and not have a bunch of chaffing from the cover.... Black shows everything.

I have one large mud flap that goes all the way across the back of the truck and is about 1 1/2 inches off the ashphalt. It attaches to the receiver works great. Hey when you guys wrap the boat with the industrial saran wrap, do you wrap the whole thing or just the front?
