I am thinking of adding Boat Buddy to my trailer. Anyone use this product and have any feedback. I am assuming that Boat Budddy 2 (1/2") would be the best choice.

I am thinking of adding Boat Buddy to my trailer. Anyone use this product and have any feedback. I am assuming that Boat Budddy 2 (1/2") would be the best choice. I personally do not trust anything that is mechanical to lock my boat in place before being pulled up the ramp. Last year I watched a guy with a new supra with a boat buddy, he couldn't get the thing to unlock, we are sitting next to each other on the ramp, I am sitting in the driver seat getting ready to be backed in the last few feet to start the boat, he is getting irate and gets back into the truck and hits the gas to go back to the parking lot, as he takes off the boat buddy releases and the boat starts to slide off the trailer, I am SCREAMING...WHOA...WHOA!!! and he stops just in time for the boat to teeter back onto the trailer. The ironic thing is that I saved him from dropping the boat on the ramp and he didn't even say thanks...freaking Wally...lol I will only use a strap and a safety chain after seeing that. ![]() Surf's Up!!!

We use a boat buddy for loading/launching too - we call her "first mate" though, she doesn't like being called "Boat Buddy"!

Everyone I talked to gave me a thumbs down.
I still have a Boat Buddy II in the packaging. I'm going to return it next time I'm near my in-laws. I have another problem that I need my trailer shimmed. My new prop has no clearance. Parked right next to another AVY that has 4" of clearance. I don't have any luck. No power loading for me. |

I used a boat buddy for years with my MasterCraft that I just traded in on my new boat. I thought it was very handy, but I never used it alone to secure my boat. When I talked to the guys at my new store they didn't think it would work with my boat so I am foregoing it. I think that the design of the one I had would not work on my new boat based on where the eye is and the angle of the bow. Of course, I typically only load my boat on the trailer once a year so what do I know?
I would use it to lock the boat in place and then I would tighten up the winch before pulling out of the water and up the ramp. |

Well thanks for the input. I guess I have to come up with another way to spend my 80 bucks in the off season!
